I had been looking for a last minute offer for a package tour to Egypt with the main objective to go snorkeling without having to leave the resort. By chance I found the Protels Crystal Beach Resort near Marsa Alam at a relatively affordable price. + - Friendly, attentive and very helpful employees - Clean premises and rooms - Nicely laid-out garden(s) with plenty of flowers and palm trees - Big rooms with all you need and small terraces or balconies - Two restaurants where included in the all-inclusive package - Relatively large choice of different dishes at the buffet with themed dinners every now and then - Several other restaurants, some of which can be used as an alternative once or twice depending on the length of your stay; you will need a reservation for the sea food restaurant and the steak house and you will have to pay for these restaurants. I heard the seafood restaurant offers delicious dishes - Plenty of beach chairs free of charge both at the beach and at the pools - Towels for the beach and pools free of charge - Extremely shallow water from the beach to the reef; perfect for hanging out in the water and for small children - Bars to get a refreshing beverage always near you (self-service) - If you wish to you can also order beverages brought to your beach chair - at a charge, but worth it - Housekeeping will provide a number of water bottles free of charge everyday - Most sales reps are fun to talk with and will not push you - The dive club and the spa offer great packages at a good price; - Wonderful house reef teeming with colorful fish and also some turtles - International guests, many very open and helpful - - Some receptionists are very nice, but some don‘t really care about the guests‘ inquiries. - The pier for getting to the house reef is made of wooden planks with gaps - hard for disabled people - When there are high winds, you will not be allowed to go snorkeling from the pier / at all. It‘s for your own safety, but it practically happened every day and, thus, was frustrating. Please note: It seems the reef access will open from 8am to 11am and after 4pm when the surf isn‘t too bad - Beach service, the pier and the pool close at 6pm. - Dishes may be on the cold side at the buffet, but that often happens at buffets, and doesn‘t really matter. - If you leave the table after the starter to get your main dish or later your dessert, you may return to your table with other people sitting there because service had removed your (full) glasses and cutlery - Self-service beverages are served in plastic or paper cups - Single women may find themselves fending off advances by employees. - Don‘t leave money and valuables unsupervised All in all, despite some small cause for criticism, I feel the resort deserves full points because being content is not only a matter of circumstances, but also of one‘s own attitude. We were visiting in februari and also in march. We liked it so much. Good and healthy food. Calm and respectfull staff in the hotel. Amazing vieuw to the sea. Nice excursions.Pharmacy near by to take vitamins and supllements for good prices. Sport facilyties and entertaiment good

We were the only English people at the hotel last week! Beach was beautiful, can actually go in the sea from the sand. Long pier with excellent snorkelling. Rooms were clean, traditional, a little basic but who spends time in them when the sun is out! Food was average, not a massive choice but always something that appealed, fresh and cooked veg was gorgeous and plenty of fresh fruit. Cocktails were the biggest downfall, spirits not very nice, beer ok if a little on the week side and glasses ridiculously small. Staff in general very friendly, bar staff not so, bit surly but maybe they had lots of complaints about the spirits? On the whole, for the price, can't fault it. Take your own duty free spirit and a glass and bobs your uncle.

I’m in this hotel now. so, meals are poor unfortunately, but there are some tasty things. if you like variety in food-you shouldn’t come here. Rooms-old, it is ok for Egypt,but I have really old room and SUPER DIRTY. towels smell so bad! i’ve left a money for cleaner, i thought he could change towels and bed, but no… really dirty shower… and i have to wear shoes in room,because floor is extremely dirty. bed is dirty and UNCOMFORTABLE. Have a problem with my back after 1 night :( Air conditioning-works in one mode and noisy. Pool is dirty too by the way.
