Jansens Bungalow Sinharaja

This little tucked away lodge was a real gem. Set in the beautiful rainforest surroundings, we found ourselves birdwatching at every moment! The food was delicious, a wide range of choices available, and I loved that the pool looked out over the valley below. Staff were fantastically helpful too - our air conditioning system broke down, and they immediately cleaned up another room and moved us there! Thank you!

Hotel tres reculé dans un cadre complètement paradisiaque et enchanteur. Calme, bien agencée et décorée chaque chambre est équipée d air conditionné et ici c est nécessaire ! La piscine à débordement est idyllique avec vue sur la vallée. En contre bas, une rivière est également un lieu de baignade possible. Seul bémol de ce lieu pour ne les avoir les 5 étoiles est le manager, souriant mais dépassé par les événements (hôtel complet) et souvent absent ou en cuisine… Pour un tel établissement dépourvu de réception H24, il serait souhaitable d avoir un contact Watsapp en cas de necesité ou d urgence médicale dans la nuit car le téléphone des chambres ne répondait pas. Les (très) jeunes garçons employés ici ont un très large sourire mais manquent absolument d initiative et c est dommage. Les prises électriques de toute la chambre sont inutilisables sans adaptateur… qu’ il n y a évidemment pas ! Le comble étant le sèche-cheveux avec prise européenne qui ne rentre évidemment pas dans les prises ! Enfin le restaurant, pourtant magnifiquement situé, offre une cuisine très décevante et basique. Vraiment dommage dans un lieu pareil! Monsieur le propriétaire, vous avez construit un joyau, merci de prendre en compte mes remarques puis embaucher un vrai chef et un vrai manager pour que les séjours soient parfaits et inoubliables !

This was the loveliest place we stayed in Sri Lanka. We loved the imaginative and creative visual style of the hotel. - the rock hewn bathroom and the metal buckets converted to lighting! The bed was really comfortable . The quality of the food and cooking was superb - the best we had and the staff were intelligent, kind welcoming and enthusiastic about the incredible rainforest setting and the surrounding wildlife. Finally the infinity pool looking out over the rainforest is without doubt the most exceptional luxury I have ever experienced!

As a solo traveler I was very impressed by the professionalism of the staff at the Jansen’s Bungalow Sinharaja Retreat. Bungalow is located adjacent to a nearby stream and the surrounding area is so beautiful. Room and the bathroom were very clean and well presented. Staff at the bungalow looked after me really well. If you are a nature lover and keen to explore the unesco heritage Sinharaja Rain Forest this is the best place to stay. I stayed at the bungalow for two nights. I wish I stayed there for more. Chanaka took me to the entrance gate at the Sinharaja forest in the bungalow’s tuk tuk and arrange a tour guide for me to explore the Sinharaja forest. Once I completed the hike Chanaka came back to pick me up and on the way to the bungalow he took me to see the Duli Ella. Food was delicious which was prepared by Chanaka. Sri Lankan and western dishes were in the menu which you can choose from. Kasun and Sandaruwan also provided a great service. I will definitely stay at this bungalow if I visit Sinharaja again ❤️

What to say about this lodge!!! Amazing location - one of the best i have ever been - (note that photos underestimate the place)!, amazing people, the manager and the staff are just fantastic, very good rooms, excellent food (among the best we found in 2-weeks in sri lanka), and amazing safaris! if you are interested in birdwatching the area around the lodge can give a full day on itself!!!
