We recently visited this pub for a quiet afternoon out with family. The bartender was welcoming and the beer garden is well-kept. Unfortunately, the visit was overshadowed by an upsetting encounter with another patron. A woman with a grey pixie haircut shouted aggressively at our young daughters, who were quietly playing with some wood chips and stones, pretending to run a little café. They weren’t damaging anything or disturbing anyone—just enjoying harmless, imaginative play. The woman claimed they were “messing with the garden” and spoke in a needlessly hostile and confrontational tone. Her behaviour left both the children and the adults in our group feeling shaken and very unwelcome. It’s incredibly disappointing to see children spoken to this way in any public space. While the staff were kind, this experience left a lasting negative impression. We won’t be returning.

The information on the booking site was very misleading stating parking was included. When we arrived it turned out that parking was by disc parking for two hours then you had to move your car to a paid car park then move it back to outside pub where it is free from 6pm till 8am then put disc back on for two hours. As my husband has difficulty walking we found the walking back and forward to car park would be too much we decided not to stay. We got a refund for our room but we were very disappointed as we had driven quite a distance and we had wasted money on petrol and our time..

We stayed here for two nights as our start to mini tour of the north of England and Scotland. The room we had was very basic but clean and suited our needs as a base for the time stayed. It is looking a little shabby and could do with redecoration but the hosts were welcoming and the breakfast was good. Parking in Richmond town centre is a disc based scheme that gives two hours free parking (free between 6pm and 8 am). A disc was available at the hotel and there is on street parking outside.

We stayed at the Buck Inn for 4 nights as a base to explore the Yorkshire Dales, it’s a lovely traditional cosy pub. We were in room 6 which was a really good size and had beautiful views from the window. Breakfast was included in the price and was probably the best b&b breakfast we’ve had. The produce is beautiful quality from a local butchers, cooked really well and not greasy like some English breakfasts can be! Paul and Fiona who run the pub were really lovely and friendly, on hand if we needed anything and sharing local recommendations for our stay. We also found when having a drink in the bar in the evening all the locals to be very friendly. I’d highly recommend the Buck Inn as place to stay, it was excellent value for money, I would have been happy to pay more. I would recommend booking with them directly if you do decide to stay. Location was also excellent, just off the main market square, parking is a disc system in Richmond, we found it easier to park in the large Nunns close car park, very reasonable charges, we actually bought a weekly parking pass and it was only £18.

The staff were lovely, helpful and came up trumps when given different tasks. The breakfast was good, they had real coffee and oat milk and the beds were comfy. We got a lovely little food voucher for their sister pub which went down a treat (lush food!!! Proper lush! and this said sister pub packed up my leftovers for my packed lunch the next day. Very grateful!

Disc parking for 2 hours then unrestricted from 6pm to 8am. Location is good though Richmond centre is quite compact anyway. We were in room 5. Basic but spacious, double and single bed. Thought shower was broke but realised it was the water pressure. Went cold, hot, off then on. Breakfast is a pre order and it was wonderful. Hot, tasty and filling. We were at a 4 star hotel in Grasmere recently and this breaky knocked spots off it. All the staff we met were really friendly. All in all good value for £76 on a Friday.
