Martinhal Sagres Beach Family Resort Hotel

Great hotel, great facilities! The beach and view are beautiful!

We had high expectations of this resort for our first holiday with our 11 month old. However, it feel short again and again. When we arrived, we immediately didn't get the 5 star experience, no explanations of where anything is or a welcome We had requested a number of items from the "baby concierge" for our daughter, but when we checked into our apartment, none of these were there. There also wasn't even a kettle in the kitchenette to make bottles. We phoned continuously to request, and finally got most items, but after 3 days of requesting a kettle, we gave-up and resorted to boiling with a pan. The accommodation was spacious and okay. It was particularly windy while we were there (which we had been warned about and the staff mentioned it was incredibly windy that week) ＞ think drinks flying off tables and we were unable to sit on the balcony in the evenings when our daughter was asleep. Despite rising to 30 degrees during the day and moments of calm, freezing/windy evenings with no comfortable seat indoors, really took away from any possible relaxation in the evenings (what every parent looks forward to). This of course wasn't the fault of the resort, but would put us off the location. We did eventually realise that there was an indoor heated pool with baby classes, which our daughter loved for the last 2 days, but again, nobody had thought to mention this when we checked in. Our biggest challenge here was the food. Our daughter is allergic to dairy and wheat. We communicated this well in advance of arrival and they assured us it would be fine. They didn't seem to realise that at 11 months old, many babies have outgrown purees but rather will take soft finger foods. Every single meal we would request something simple like soft cooked vegetables and chicken, and it seemed an impossibility to serve vegetables that weren't rock hard and edible for our 11 month old. At times, we requested them to cook them further, and after a 40 minute wait, the vegetables would appear again in the same hard state. We complained at reception that there didn't seem to be anything our daughter could eat at lunch and dinner (breakfast was fine) and again, it was a very dismissive attitude. There were no substantive items we could buy in the shop-on-site to cook i.e. no meat etc. Our daughter ended up eating pouch porridge and fruit for most of the trip and it was quite stressful. The last few days they agreed they would cook her an omelette at each meal, so at least it was something but it really didn't have to be that difficult and servers should be able to accommodate a simple request like "soft-cooked vegetables". We felt really let down on this. On a positive note, we found the kids club fantastic and the staff were excellent. Our daughter was very happy in there. The children's entertainment in the square was good, but very brief. For a family orientated resort, you would expect more. In the last few days, we enjoyed our time a bit more as we figured

The accommodation was more than great. Our child had a great time and we as parents also thought that it was a very nice holiday. Our room had a fantastic view of the sea and the food was delicious!

My Husband, three year old daughter & I went to Martinhal Sagres last week. We had an amazing time, the amount to do for my daughter and how kid friendly everything was far exceeded our expectations. From kids plates/ cutlery to the tiny toilets and the never ending playgrounds. The views, beach and pool were stunning. The pools were also heated which is great with a toddler. Our room was clean and stylish. It was also practical as the hotel had provided a bumper for our daughter’s bed and a potty both in advance of our check in. We were half board and meal times were a highlight. The food was delicious and we could enjoy it because if our daughter got bored at the table she would go to the colouring/ toy table. She particularly connected with Tanveer who is the sweetest and so good with children. I could hear my daughter non stop talking to Tanveer which shows she really feels comfortable and happy with someone. Also a shout out to Camilla who started off the holiday by checking us in and being so kind to us all. The kids get a bag and a toy on arrival and when our daughter lost hers Camilla gave her a new one during the week, even remembering our daughter’s name. Very impressive when she must see so many families. Camilla took our family photo on our last day and it was so nice to be able to thank her for everything her and the rest of the impeccable staff did. Finally Luigi who dropped us to and from the airport made everything stress free and very smooth. Again the car seat was provided in advance and installed. This is a fantastic resort for families with young kids - from the endless activities and facilities for kids, to the clean and thoughtfully-designed rooms, the range of dining options, and the gorgeous surroundings. It is hard to imagine a better beach for children (small waves, crystal blue water, tidal pools at low tide, sand like silk underneath your feet). We would definitely like to come back again. We stayed 3 nights and wished we had stayed longer.

We really enjoyed our stay. A lot of activities for the kids and what we liked the most: the wel (!!!!) heated pools. Even though the weather was quite chilly with the wind, the kids could play for hours in the pool without getting cold… loved it!!!
