We stayed as a couple in late July for 6 nights and had the Captain's room which was charming and spacious, but let down by the flimsy bathroom which was a tiny add-on with an awkward to access shower. After a disappointing start with a booking issue where our daughter and partner were with short notice, unable to fulfill long awaited travel plans to join us, we should have (I suppose) been grateful that the hotel took only their deposit and three of the six nights fee. This took much negotiation over the phone on our daughter's part, as the whole six nights were originally to be their punishment. As the circumstances were upsetting, emotional and genuinely extenuating and their room probably re-booked instantly, we arrived with a rather negative mind set. We did however appreciate the charming and historic setting, pleasant gardens (with so much more potential yet) and especially the staff at reception who were extremely helpful, friendly and patient with our requests along the way. The spa was out of the question at its price point and we never saw it used, the bar which was open for just a couple of hours a day had problems with tap beer and seemed to be a rather ad hoc arrangement generally (for a Hotel). Others have mentioned the WIFI set up which was frustrating to say the least. The sitting or lounge area was not particularly appealing so we didn't use it. We wondered if a pool might be a good addition as there is certainly the space for one. The location was ideal and close to the lovely Port with loads of nice places to eat. Generally the Ile de Re was just lovely and we especially enjoyed bike riding to the other towns and beaches; truly a 'French' experience. La Flotte was a standout where we ate a superb lunch at L'ecailler but we were really pleased that we stayed in Saint Martin where Le Serghi was our favourite dining experience.
