Ponient Dorada Palace by PortAventura World

For a start beware of booking with trip. I booked for me and my 3 boys 14, 12, and 10 years old. When I got to the hotel they told me there would be an additional charge of 1500 euros for my 2 younger boys. So if the price looks cheap on trip please check with the hotel. As a single mother this was a terrible blow at the start of my holiday. The room was unclean, the hotel claims to had had a massive refurbishment however the only changes was the colour scheme in the living area of the room. The bathroom was the same as last year when we stayed with one addition, it was unclean. The main wardrobe in the living room had no hangers, I asked at reception and was told there was non to be had. There are now drawers in the apartment. They have taken away a cabinet under the tv and replaced it with two round tables that really serve no purpose. Even the dressing table had no drawers. There are two tables either side of the bed but no cabinets with drawers. I went to get a glass from the kitchen only to discover that the entire kitchen was devoid of equipment. Again I asked reception to be told I had to request the kitchen equipment. When the plates, etc arrived the cleaning lady dumped a box containing everything on the floor in the room. Not really what one would except from a “4” star hotel. The room was only cleaned every day at around 3pm. The floors were never washed, I had to ask for clean sheets, The bed wasn’t made properly and the bathroom never touched. I found out from one of the cleaning staff that there are only 10 cleaning staff on a morning and the 1 on an afternoon the poor staff couldn’t. It is impossible to get sunbeds at the pool. On a morning people start lining their bags containing towels at 7am then the pool is supposed to open at 9am. I went down a few times at 8.45 only to find the doors open and all sunbeds reserved with towels even though it states on the website that it is not permitted to reserve beds. Also the numbers of sunbeds at the pool is less than half of what it was last year when I stayed. The food in the restaurant was disgusting, absolutely full of grease, the children’s food was atrocious me and my kids tried eat there three times but couldn’t eat a thing. I complained to the manager but he was very rude and shrugged his shoulders when I explained the problem. I will not return to the hotel, I love Salou but not that terrible place. It is most definitely not a four star hotel. I wouldn’t even give it a two star. Photos of the bathroom. Hôtel dans son jus ... , les terrasses de piscines sont complètements délabrées et le sol est jonché de détritus en tout genre. Manque de règles concernant les transats de piscines, les gens laisse leur serviette dessus pour les "réservés " résultats aucune place de disponible et piscines vide, génial quand on a des enfants. Les chambres passent encore mais niveau insonorisation, vous vivez avec vos voisins et toutes les personnes qui passent dans le couloir. La nourriture qui est servit est assez bonne par contre je vous conseil de ne pas boire les jus de fruits du petit déjeuner qui sont juste un concentré de sucre.

my review of ponient dorada palace Got there last Sunday quite early as our flight from the uk got us into Salou around 10:30 , we arrived to be told our room wasn’t ready until 3pm at the earliest so we asked if there was anywhere we could leave our cases they said they had lockers at a charge of 6 euros which we did , only to find once we had chosen the lockers paid the money the door opened to the lockers and there where suitcases inside not a good start so after some messing about they coudnt fix the problem so let us Leave our cases behind the reception all this took about an hour. We just went for a wander into salou while we waited as they said they’d ring me once the room was ready , so we waited no call so we went back to the hotel and they told us the room was ready ? Room we were given 505 was expansive , bedroom , little kitchen and separate bathroom and a couch and tv , plenty of wardrobe space , fridge , microwave which worked. We went half board , breakfasts where really good excellent choice but we found it really busy after 9am so get there before then opens at 8am Main pool was always very busy full of families so virtually impossible to get a bed , there where queues at 9am itching to get out and get there towels down , so the whole week we opted for the adults only pool on the roof of the hotel , much more relaxed and civilized. Now this rule they have no sunglasses in the pool or normal glasses for that matter strange one as u could have a phone in the pool ? Highlight for me was the room very comfortable and spacious , would I return probably not as we preferred cambrils I thought Salou was a bit tacky and not very clean

This hotel is definitely for families with lots going on for kids . Thank goodness there is an adult only area on the roof with a small pool and 2 jacuzzis and plenty of sun beds. The downside is if you are all inclusive it’s doesn’t apply to this area but you can bring drinks up from the ground floor bar. I didn’t have a problem with the food plenty of options- the tables are very close to each other and at times I felt uncomfortable to add to this there was a number of children unsupervised pushing in to get their food /shouting/dropping food on the floor as their plates had been piled up. The room was small but ok as I don’t go on holiday to stay in my room/no kettle but you can hire one / only 6 coat hangers for 2 guests/free safe for you to put your valuables in Bar area - there was a lack of staff behind the one bar on an evening which caused long cues resulting in people getting more than one drink at anytime. Children’s entertainment started at 9pm which I thought was late but they all looked to be enjoying it. I loved that Elmo visited The hotel is in a great location -close to the shops and bars only 10min walk to the beach. I personally wouldn’t go back to this hotel but would definitely recommend it for families.

This wasn’t a bad place all in all but it wasn’t great either. All inclusive at this place means up until half 11 and then you have to pay, which is bizarre as the bar only stayed open another half hour after. The staff - Were pretty miserable for the most part behind the bar, the receptionist staff were more helpful. The food - Was alright but after day 3, I’d had enough of it. The beer - Was alright, not bad at all. The bar - they seem under staffed, it takes a while to get a drink and they need to open more bars in order to stop this issue. There was one bar that didn’t open the entire time I was there. They close the pool bar about 6/7, not sure why, it would be ideal to have it open for longer. The rooms - I had a small apartment, ground floor, was nice size but it was next to the lifts so it was loud at times, but not a massive issue, bring ear plugs and that solves the problem. Overall, basic stuff but decent enough value. The lack of staff made it annoying and the entertainment might have been a bit better. A few people I spoke to mentioned that it had changed hands in the past year and that it was a far cry away from what it used to be like, which is a shame as it’s got the potential to be a really good spot if they didn’t cut a few corners.
