AC Hotel San Rafael Downtown

This may have been one of the worst hotel experiences we have ever had. We are Marriott Bonvoy members and seek out Marriott properties when traveling. Parking is very limited and there is not an obviously unloading area when checking in, so just be prepared. We had a room on the 5th floor and had to call the front desk twice to complain about the overhead noise of music, feet stomping, and furniture dragging across the floor. The front desk staff said they would address the issue - us thinking there was a room above us. It was only until my husband got out of bed to got to the front desk that we learned the bar was directly above us. Mind you my husband had to do this because while we were sleeping, another hotel guest attempted to enter our room. They were assigned to our room, even though we had checked in hours prior. It was disturbing to us and the person who tried to enter our room. It would have been nice to know about the bar above when checking in or at least the front desk could have told us on the TWO phone calls to the front desk that this was the case. Hotel staff seemed friendly but programmed just to apologize for the inconvenience. There was no manager on duty to address our concerns. Unfortunately, there are not many hotels in the area so options are limited. I suggest you ask for a room on the lower levels if you need to get sleep prior to 11 pm.

Best in Downtown

The AC Marriott Hotel in downtown San Rafael is a beautifully designed hotel. It’s very new and the aesthetic is European very clean in its design. The lobby is spacious and a great space to work. They also have a big cozy couch with a fireplace . LThey have a restaurant with a great breakfast. The rooms are very clean and large. I love the way the bathroom and the shower are designed. The hotel itself is accessible to downtown San Rafael as well as it’s very easy to get around all of Marin. I want to give a special shout out to the front desk and specifically Jennifer. Jennifer is an absolute professional who is kind and friendly and most importantly you can count on her to take care of all your needs. It’s the kind of service you look for in a hotel that sets it apart.

Nice and clean hotel. The staff was pleasant and helpful. The surrounding area had many restaurants to choose from and we noticed the streets were well maintained.

Excellent choice in San Rafael, right downtown, short walking distance to fine restaurants. Nice staff, too!

The AC Marriott San Rafael is a good place to stay if you are in the Marin area. It’s centrally located and close to the downtown San Rafael area with plenty of restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance. They have a good workout facility available if that’s what you need. The rooms and pretty spacious and comfy for a quick trip. They have a rooftop bar area that looks nice, but it did close early due to high winds the night I was there. They did have an indoor bar near the lobby, but it seemed to be closed when I was there. Pros: 1) Close to downtown area with plenty of restaurants within walking distance 2) Rooms and lobby were clean and spacious 3) Staff was friendly and helpful Cons: 1) Parking is very limited, so you may need to find street parking. Be mindful of parking meters and hours of operation. 2) No evening night bar options in the hotel were available. Overall, it’s a good place to stay. Keep the parking situation in mind, but that can be worked out. @nomoneytravelguy
