We spent 2.5 weeks in Vietnam and stayed at 6 hotels and this was my favourite hotel. It's a bit of a trek from Hanoi, but the shuttle is very comfortable and they picked us up from our hotel. You do need to be staying at a hotel in the old quarter in order to picked up directly from your hotel. We did the hiking tour and the hikes were amazing. It had been raining and it was very muddy and I did slip so make sure you have good shoes. We did borrow rubber boots from the hotel and these were very helpful. We opted for the pool villa and I would highly recommend this. We would wake up in the morning to a view of nothing but clouds and then there would be a break and you could see down into the valley. The pool off of our room was like a hot tub which was lovely. The larger pools had even more amazing views and they were heated as well, but there was a pool that was cooler. The food at every restaurant was so good. If you have a pool villa you can eat breakfast at the 360 degree restaurant. We ate dinner there one evening and it was very good, but the menu was limited and we ended up liking the Stilt House restaurant better because it had more options and in particular more vegetarian options. They had a lovely happy hour each evening. I can see why this hotel is on the National Geographic list of lakes and mountains hotels. Every hotel we stayed at in Vietnam was lovely, but this one was really exceptional due to the incredible location.
