Hampton Inn by Hilton Schenectady Downtown

$291 for one night, so take how you will. I travel for a living across the country and solely stay in Hilton Hotels. The amount of hotels that still use the “insert” style keys need to be updated. Especially at that price point. Nice room. Bad $.

Let me tell you about this property: I travel here for business usually 1x a month. I always fly in and get to the hotel in the middle of the night **ROBERT** the night auditor is amazing! This past year I've stayed in hotels over 120 nights and by far Robert is the most welcoming face you can expect to find at a hotel front desk in the middle of the night. Even though only stay once a month he remembers my name. He remembers why I'm there and he always streamlines my check in. My rooms are always clean. My rooms are always quiet while there's no guarantee for references, the hotel does as good as they can to honor those requests as frequently as possible. The breakfast area and the breakfast staff member takes great pride in that. The parking is easy. The property is clean. My company tries to put me up at a competitor's hotel every time I come to town but I decline because I know that Robert and the staff take care of me.

We stayed at this hotel for a few nights. First evening we were there we noticed there was no air conditioning in the room. It was so hot, and the temperature kept going up. We called the front desk about it early evening and were told the maintenance person was at home and would call us back. When he called he gave us instructions to change the thermostat however the 'fix' did nothing. The air conditioning system did not work. We called the front desk again at 2:30am for help because it was so hot and gross in the room and were told to wait until the morning as they had no-one available. Needless to say it was a very uncomfortable night of no sleep. Unbelievably the next morning there was no hot water. We actually had cold showers! The front desk just treated this as 'normal' - no sense of this being a problem at all. We were told this has happened before and they had no idea when it would be fixed. It was unbelievable the way we were treated. There was absolutely no sense of customer service or concern for the guests. We actually had no choice but to take cold showers. When we returned that night there was hot water. The next night we again had no air conditioning.The temperature was climbing above 75 degrees again. It was awful. We called the front desk asking for help again however we had to wait until morning. The next morning a very nice maintenance woman came in and took the wall unit apart. Thankfully she did get it to blow some cold air -finally we had air movement in the room. In addition to all this, one morning when we asked the front desk to have our room cleaned we were told they may not be able to do that as they are short staffed and may not get to it. The attitude we got from the woman at the desk was unbelievably rude to say the least. The front desk was less than helpful the entire time we were there. Overall it was a horrible experience at this hotel, from no air conditioning to no hot water to terrible service.

Everything was great, room, pool, breakfast. The only compliant I had was the air conditioner. Could not cool the room. In the evening there was no parking.

To be fair, for some reason unlike the pass 3 years, the hotel is less cleanly than before. Its not dirty, but they need to tighten it up.
