As a single woman who likes to travel, I signed up for a food and wine tour in Sicily with Modern Adventures. The group was small, and our guide, Alice was amazing. Built into the schedule was free time. A couple of my independent evenings were at Verdura Resort, a place in Sicily that sits at a location so tranquilizing, I wish I could have stayed longer. One evening, I hopped on a bike. They are located all over the property and are free so it was so easy to explore in a leisurely way. I ended up at the aptly named Sunset Bar, where I enjoyed a glass of wine with snacks while watching a colorful sunset. As the evening chilled, a man showed up and handed over a blanket to keep me warm. It was that cozy! Another evening, a number of us dined at L’Osteria. I was envious of some of the dishes ordered by others, and even though there are other restaurants, I went back by myself to L’Osteria to have another try at the wonderful menu. The bar seating was quiet, and to honest, as an introvert who likes to travel, sitting alone at the bar was a perfect respite from the busier days we had. I can say the bar sat a little high, and they should change the chairs to accommodate people who choose to sit there. But the food and wine more than made up for it. It was nice that Jouseffe, Marco and Noemi spoke English and were able to indulge me with short conversations about the food and wine. It was obvious there was pride in their food and the area itself. And they seemed impressed that I was able to say the artichoke broth that came with the perfectly cooked artichokes had a hint of fennel. I do love food! I probably ordered more food that I should have, but I don't even regret it. And I did eat it all! Would I go back to Sicily? Most definitely. I will just be building in more time for an extended stay at Verdura Resort, which was very comfortable for me, as a single person, but looked like it was popular with families and couples too.
