Namib Desert Lodge

Fantastic overnight stay here. We stayed on our way back to Windhoek from Sossusvlei. It’s about 45 minutes’ drive to Sossusvlei so very conveniently located. The room was nice and the food for dinner and breakfast was very delicious. Staff were very friendly too. The grounds are incredibly beautiful and situated under a very scenic cliff base so the views are very pleasant. The only slight problem was the shower was quite cold no matter what we did, but other than that we had a good time here. The wifi was particularly good and fast for Namibia. They said it was only available in the restaurant and reception (as is normal for every hotel in Sossusvlei/Etosha) but we were able to connect to it even from our room 67 which was quite far from there. I would recommend a stay here.

The lodge has many good points. The rooms were clean, the staff friendly and the food better than average. But the admin wasn’t so good. Everyone leaves at 5.30am to get to the sand dunes at the best time. Reception? Opened at 6am. Not good. So we couldn’t pay. We couldn’t leave our keys etc. Not a disaster but very frustrating nonetheless.

Great views of the petrified dunes. Very special. Our Camp2go unit no 2 had great plains views and watching the groups of gemsbok and wildebeest pass in the morning with coffee was a perfect experience. Unit was in ship shape. Management are on top of things. The wind kept on blowing out the 2 plate gas stove for the kettle, so a metal flame protector of sorts is a must.
