This lovely family-run boutique hotel in Shangri-La is managed entirely by a hardworking couple who do everything themselves, from check-in to housekeeping to minor repairs. Their dedication and warmth welcome made my stay truly comfortable and welcoming.
I arrived in Shangri-La a few hours before the official check-in time. The couple was in the middle of cleaning the rooms after earlier guests had checked out. Despite being so busy, they noticed a room had already been prepared and kindly offered me an early check-in. I was sincerely touched by their thoughtfulness and hospitality.
Throughout my stay, I asked them numerous questions, from where to find good local food, to navigating public buses, to which attractions were worth visiting. Even though they were always busy maintaining the property, they took time to answer all my questions with care and helpful recommendations.
The hotel is conveniently located just outside the old city wall, near one of the gates (I believe it’s the West Gate). While it’s not within the ancient city itself, the location actually turned out to be a great advantage. Shops and restaurants nearby offered more reasonable prices, and the area was less crowded yet I can walk to the old city within a minute or two. Public transport to major attractions like the Shangri-La luxury hotels and the Songzanlin ******* Monastery was easily accessible.
The room was surprisingly spacious, with two large beds, a built-in dehumidifier, air-conditioning and even a heater in the bathroom. Such small detail really made a big difference in comfort, especially in the cooler evenings.
In all, this hotel is a warm haven in the highlands, run with care, humility and the quiet grace of people who treat guests like friends. I would absolutely return and recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic and comfortable stay in Shangri-La.
