My friend and I just returned from a 'Sunday Sleepover' break at this hotel. We stayed in one of the potting shed suites and I have to say that it was superb - the room was beautiful and had everything you could wish for and more. The breakfast was lovely and so are the staff. Unfortunately there were a couple of things that spoilt our stay, and although not directly the hotel's fault - it is worth knowing about so others on this break are not disappointed and I think they would do well to be a little more prepared. Firstly, we were disappointed to find that there was nowhere to eat on Sunday evening. Many of the pubs were closed and the ones open were not serving food. There was one Italian restaurant open but you have to book in advance - people were queuing out of the door, after a buzzing afternoon in the town, come the evening, it is a ghost town. We went to bed hungry. There is no food served at the hotel apart from breakfast and afternoon tea. They should really at least provide some light bar snacks such as sandwiches in the evening. Also, the hotel gives you free tickets to visit the castle and gardens. Bearing in mind you don't arrive till late afternoon Sunday, likelihood is - like us - you plan to visit on the Monday, so we got up and had our lovely breakfast and drove to the castle and it was closed!!!! The hotel should surely know this? Whilst I appreciate we could use the tickets at another time, our trip was partly based around it. So all in all - yes, the hotel is a treat - but we had no dinner and no castle visit - which was very disappointing and because we are not local, the likelihood of driving all the way there for this is unlikely.
