As the name suggests, it is a retreat in the jungle. There are no windows, and the trees are the natural windows. You can meet squirrels and monkeys, and you are surrounded by the sounds of many birds and insects in the morning and at night. The hotel offers a variety of activities, which can be booked.
The beginning of April, when we stayed, was firefly season, and when it rained in the evening, more than a dozen fireflies surrounded our mosquito net.

This little gem is at the foot of the rock, service is top class. Rooms are special and exclusive with beautiful outdoor shower(private) . The loris conservation is admiring. Would highly recommend it. om in

The most memorable stay in our journey. Truly an amazing experience. I love the stay from start to the end. only issue was poor signal on mobile phone. A foresty feeling & spending the night time is an adventure. They make delicious rice n curry (local food).

Beautifully designed treetop accommodation. Lovely food and staff. Very chill. Eco-focused approach allowing you to feel at one with nature. Make sure you go searching for the nocturnal Loris monkeys - guide is on hand to take you. Conveniently placed to visit Sigiriya and Pidurangala Rocks!

Staying at Back of Beyond - Dehigaha Ela was a dream! Sleeping in a treehouse, surrounded by nature, was pure magic—falling asleep to jungle sounds and waking up with monkeys in the trees was an adventure in itself. The staff was beyond amazing—super friendly and always there to help with anything. They made sure we had everything we needed, from organizing transport to serving delicious homemade food under the stars. The peaceful jungle setting, incredible wildlife, and warm hospitality made this an unforgettable stay. If you’re looking for a unique and relaxing escape, this is the place to be!

We loved our tree house and living in the jungle. We received a warm welcome when we arrived and the staff were exemplary. The food is also high quality. We especially enjoyed two early morning walks up Lion’s rock and the rock at Sigireya, a half day elephant safari and the loris safari at night led by their naturalist.

A unique experience waking in the tree canopy where we could hear & see the monkeys in the adjacent trees going about their daily business. Outdoor but private shower a real treat. The staff were excellent and the meals were beautifully presented and delicious including a candle lit BBQ dinner. Great stepping off point for safari’s, boat rides, Sagiriya Rock & other attractions such as a wood carver & having a traditional breakfast with a local farm family. A local nocturnal excursion spotting the rare & elusive Loris primates was amazing & a highlight. We highly recommend this wonderful venue and what it offers.
