Hotel Sioux Falls Empire Mall

We spent a night here to facilitate an evening out in the neighbourhood. This is a basic, inexpensive motel which is clean and tidy and close to a number of event locations. Breakfast options were as expected in a motel.

Take our advice and keep looking. Window was broke, coffee pot was broke, remote for tv missing the back, fire marshal would fine them for all of the plugs in one outlet! The one chair in the room was all stained. The family who runs it speak limited English. Once we walked in our room we wanted to turn around and leave but we would be out our money! I hope you read this before booking this hotel!

The good: * Breakfast was tasty, had biscuits and gravy, waffle makers, bagels, and more. * Plenty of parking and easy to get to. * Front desk was friendly. * Front desk recommended the Fryn' Pan restaurant which was delicious. * WiFi was fast, was able to download and play games with no issues. * Sink was outside of the bathroom. * Refrigerator, microwave, and TV. * Conveniently placed entrances from the parking lot. * Maintenance changed light bulb the same day when we told the front desk. * Freezer worked well, was able to freeze water bottles. The bad: * Room was small. When the bathroom door was open, you were not able to open the main door. * No bathroom fan. * The bath mat towel had black spots. * The bathroom light had one completely burnt out bulb, the other bulb started flickering and completely went out while I was showering. * Maintenance left the light cover on the bathtub and only put in one good bulb. * Only three pillows per room and only had one towel when we walked in. * Cleaning service only occurs every three days unless requested. * Breakfast was the same every day.

I understand that this is rated a 2 star hotel, but even with that being considered our room was absolutely disgusting. We arrived around 9:30pm after a twelve hour day of driving. At first, I didn't believe anyone was at the front desk and stood there waiting for someone to show up for about 10 minutes. My daughter then entered the lobby and after I started having a conversation with her, a front desk attendant who was hidden in the office behind the front desk emerged. After checking into our room, we went and grabbed some food and were looking forward to taking showers and going to bed. We realized that there was ONE towel in the room and my husband had to go to the front desk to get more. After looking at the shower, none of us used it. It didn't look like it had been cleaned in quite a while. It actually looked like someone had urinated in it and it was left that way. On his way to bed, my husband noticed his socks were wet. We assumed, some water got on the floor when we brushed our teeth. When we got up the next morning after getting almost ZERO sleep due to the ridiculous amount of noise that was allowed, we realized that the pipe to the sink had leaked all over the floor in front of the sink. It also leaked through the wall separating the sink from the bedroom and my husband's duffel bag with ALL of his clothes in it, which was on the floor next to the bed got completely soaked. As my family packed up, I went to speak to the front desk attendant about our experience. She was nice enough and listened. She even said that the leaking pipe was thought to have been fixed even though they couldn't find a leak. She also said that we should have let the front desk night attendant know and we would have gotten a different room. Well, we hadn't noticed the leak at that point because likely the room hadn't been used due to the leak and water hadn't been recently used. She took down my information including my cell number and said she would let the manager know. Have I heard anything? No. Was I offered a discounted rate? No. Horrible experience!

Amber at front desk was very friendly and helpful. Got us the last first floor room. Husband has bad knees and traveling with a partially blind dog. Room was clean and comfortable. Gateway sports bar and restaurant walking distance. Great atmosphere and food.
