Grand Hotel des Etrangers

This must be the best hotel in Ortigia, it has a spectacular view and is opportunely located near the winding pedestrian streets full of shops and restaurants. Reception staff could not have been kinder. We really appreciated the blackout curtains in the rooms that helped us get a good night’s rest. The infinity pool and pool deck were fabulous and perfect for a mid afternoon cool down. Only area for improvement was the air conditioning, while effective it was extremely loud and the fan controlled by hotel reception. Cannot recommend the in house restaurant for dinner as we did not try it, it did look a little staid but was lovely for a drink. Some variability in room noise, some noise from one room on the rear alley side and one on the sea facing side. Two other rooms on rear side were very quiet.

This is a very nice 5 star hotel. Absolutely fantastic location on Ortigia within very easy walking of the laneways and restaurants. It has an amazing fit out with mosaics in the entry. The staff are all very helpful but it seemed a little soulless I would have expected more complimentary water during our stay. Breakfast was a highlight. The pool is small but has fabulous views over the bay. The gym has well maintained equipment. It’s not cheap but worth the cost.

Very nice hotel, chic and classy decor. Wonderful pool and spa service. The only thing that is not nice is to note that one of the valets, when I called him twice in the room (for the television and for a continuous noise that came) was rude and not very helpful. I recommend choosing the staff better, because they represent a lot in a prestigious structure like yours. For the rest I recommend this hotel.

The staff and particularly the pool staff were excellent. I booked a suite with a sea view. The suite was nice and view beautiful, but as a warning for my fellow travelers....I would never book this again. There are several nightclubs across the street (along the water) and they blast booming/thumping music till 1:30-2:30 AM. I was there Friday through Monday and it was every night, even Monday. If you like to party, great but if you want quiet at nighttime, try for another room. My friend didn't have a suite and she said she could still hear it. A shame, hotel was great otherwise.
