OYO Ivy Hotel

For less than £30, this place was a veritable palace! From the moment I arrived, I felt like royalty, if royalty were on a tight budget and had a penchant for free car parking, that is! The warm welcome from the staff was like a cozy blanket, and the coffee was strong enough to resurrect even the most sluggish of souls. And let’s not even get started on the biscuits, there were enough to fuel a two-hour scoffathon that could rival an Olympic eating contest! I half-expected a biscuit-eating medal ceremony to break out at any moment. My colleague and I were whisked away to our twin room, which was a veritable wonderland of amenities: two beds (perfect for our royal slumber), three windows (ideal for our occasional stargazing and yelling at seagulls), and a delightful array of four calling birds. Yes, the only thing missing was five golden rings, but we did have five mould rings… let’s just say they were more of a decorative feature than a health concern. And as an added bonus, a seagull was perched outside, unleashing a screech that would make a banshee proud. I’m convinced it was auditioning for a horror movie. The view from our window? Not quite the seaside panorama we’d dreamed of, but it did overlook the car park, which provided a sense of security that would make even Judge Dredd feel at home. We didn’t sleep much, but with the Mega City Hotel Locks on both the entrance and bedroom door, Harry Houdini himself would’ve struggled to get in or out; just as well, really, given the zombie dance club next door at the hotel! I’m still not sure if it was a themed party or just a regular Thursday night, but I’ve never seen people shuffle with such enthusiasm, if only they’d offered lessons! The local pubs and restaurants were superb and welcoming, particularly the Hole in the Wall, which had a charm that could make even a ghost feel at ease. We watched the Man City game on a super-sized TV that could probably double as a billboard. The atmosphere was electric, with cheers and groans echoing throughout the pub, and let me tell you, the biscuits there were also top-notch—though I’m pretty sure they were trying to compete with the sheer volume of the zombie dance party next door. In summary, this experience was a delightful blend of humor, hospitality, and the occasional existential dread of wondering if the zombies would come knocking after midnight. I’d rate it a solid 4 out of 5 for both entertainment and sheer absurdity!

This hotel is shocking! It's clear they only care about you if you're paying to stay in one of their high end rooms. We booked a double - we only needed a bed to sleep but we didn't even get that. The mattress was so worn that was soon as you sat on the bed the springs moved out of the way and you were on the bed base. Both my husband and I had a terrible back the morning after and mine still hasn't recovered 2 weeks later. The bathroom had mold and the actual bedroom wasn't clean. I received multiple calls on the day to find out what time i would get there. When I informed the staff member we were running late because of traffic and fog I was told that check in closed at 10pm and that someone might not be there to check me in. I had to shout down the phone to stop him hanging up on me to get confirmation that someone would be there when we arrived. When we did finally arrive the front door was locked and we had to call a number to get someone to let us in - they weren't even in the building. Which wasn't massively reassuring. Shown to the room, not great but we only needed to sleep which we didn't get. The rooms all have electric locks on but they were installed so poorly one good push would have opened the door. We didn't leave any of our belongings in the room when we went out. We did go and speak to someone the next day but it took multiple attempts to find someone. We finally managed to speak to an area manager who happened to be there, all we wanted to do was to change rooms and they did let us change and gave us an upgrade to the type of room we originally thought we were booking. So don't be fooled by the pictures online. They also offered us a free return stay in their hotel - safe to say we will not be using it. Every time we saw them after that they just kept saying make sure to give us a good review. They clearly didn't actually care about the downfalls just that they didn't get any more bad reviews. There wasn't even anyone on check-out - we had to leave the key in the room and take a picture to prove we had left it. We asked for a refund for the first night which we thought wasn't asking much but the hotel have now gone silent and are ignoring all our attempts at communication which shows just how much they care. I wasn't expecting 5* we weren't planning on staying in the hotel but a decent night sleep in a clean room with a decent mattress isn't much to ask for. I wish I had read the reviews before booking.

Would be better if they did breakfast and put heating on and had a bar apart from that the staff are really friendly and went out there way to give me another blanket when I said I was cold and get a double bed instead of putting to single beds together

We booked 4 days in advance on arriving they did not have the booking, they eventually found it. There was no room ready we were happy to wait (30 mins). On our arrival the entrance hall was beautifully decorated, on being shown to the room the carpet in the lower halls was dirty, worn and needed an hoover. The room was adequate with clean bedding and pillows, we were disappointed there were no protectors on the mattresses. The view out teh window was the bin with over 15 black bags overflowing. The room was full of dust it had been sometime since been cleaned ( over 5 months) worth of deep dust and obwebs. We did offer feedback on which they stated they do clean x Disappointed at the overall cleanliness as you can see by the feet picture the carpet and bathroom were dirty we had to keep our shoes on.

Ignore the bad reviews arrived & more than impressed clean, welcoming huge room & everything you could want & more.. Definitely return.. the guy on reception even carried the case upstairs. Very central to the beach shops bars fair ground Thanks for making our stay the best x

Excellent stay. Great breakfast...lovely and clean hotel. Staff we excellent, so friendly and helpful. Someone had a birthday and the manager decorated a breakfast table for them. Marion the manager is great...nothing was to much trouble for her. I woud deffernatly go again to this hotel and reccomend it to my family and friends.
