The Swan Stoford

We had Sunday lunch and it was superb! Traditional roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, with loads of veg and gravy. And the a delicous sticky toffee pudding. The place itself is nice, good car parking. Good service. Looking forward to our next meal there.

I stayed at The Swan Inn, Stoford on Saturday 8th June and Sunday 9th June this year. The booking form stated that “The front desk is open daily from 9:00AM - 10:00 PM.” This was not the case. When the pub door was eventually opened, I was told they opened at 12:00. Breakfast is not served at The Swan contrary to the details on my bedroom door (see photos attached). There was also a sign to say, OPEN FOR BREAKFAST WEEKDAYS AND WEEKENDS. Also a sign stating, OPEN FOR BREAKFAST WEEKDAYS….WEEKENDS. The landlady grudgingly offered me two pieces of toast and a cup of coffee when I asked where I could get breakfast at 09:00 on a Sunday morning. There was no plug in the wash basin in my bedroom - fortunately the shower was OK. This was booked on the basis of photos on line telling a very different story

I loved my stay at the swan inn also love the potty mouth worker and the landlady was pretty arsome too love this place food was lovely too rooms are very clean beds comfortable would go back anytime to stay would seriously recommend it 10/10 is my rating

The room was lovely and large and the bed super comfy We had the steak which was delicious and the breakfast was nicely good with good ingredients Ideally placed for the local sites Lovely family run business Can’t understand the negative reviews especially about the heat as I had two fans in our room We will be back Nessa and frank x

We booked a “Deluxe” room. I would hate to see the standard rooms. Really not sure what the other fabulous reviews were looking at, but we booked on the strength of them. Sadly. After entering via a fag-end littered doorway we had a fairly disinterested chap show us to our room. It was a rather grim little room with a broken Bath panel, chipped paintwork and a filthy window - so dirty that you couldn’t see out of it. The road it was on was incredibly busy, but to be fair other reviews had warned of this. The bed was clean though, or we wouldn’t have stayed. At the end of the day, it was a scruffy pub with a fondness for old, faded artificial flowers. Although the towels were indeed folded into swans on the end of the bed, a full length mirror somewhere in the room would have been more useful, I reckon. The breakfast was adequate, no more, no less - the saving grace of this place was the charming lady who served our breakfast. She could have been an employee, or even the owner for all we knew - since nobody introduced themselves to us at any point during our visit. Not great. Not too impressed either by the vaguely threatening note both in reception and in our room telling guests to input their car reg into the machine or risk a fine. Dear, oh dear. 😔 I don’t normally bother posting negative reviews, usually just wouldn’t return- but this feels justified and judging from the other “sparkling” reviews I must assume we were given the worst room available and maybe the owners were away on holiday or something - can’t explain it any other way.

Lovely roast dinner, the pub has moved to a plated roast instead of a carvery like it was many years ago. Roast quality is good, generous portions of vegetables and gravy and Yorkshire puddings included with every meal. Only problem I had is during our unseasonably warm summer that place is sweltering - every table was sweating buckets and a fan wouldn’t go amiss. However that is an otherwise minor complaint for what was a great Sunday lunch!
