The White Star Tavern

The check in process was very easy, just took us some time to find the place because we thought it is separated from the pub but the reception is actually right in it so just walk straight in! Room was very cozy and equipped, very thoughtful to provide us with all the basic amenities plus additional items such as water, beer, milk, chocolate, coffee for coffee machine and even a postcard! Staff was really friendly and helpful as well. The breakfast was also really amazing - you get to choose a main and a drink from their breakfast menu on top of a mini buffet spread that offered some really good pastries, salamis, cheese and more, so be sure to leave some extra time in the morning to enjoy it! However, there was a club opposite the place that was opened slightly pass midnight when we were there and if you're a light sleeper be sure to pack some ear plugs to go to sleep early. One of the corners of the wall also had a slight mold issue because the condensation from the bathroom must have caused that in the long run but it shouldn't be a huge concern though it will be nice if that gets fixed!

Friday and Saturday nights can be loud in hotel because the street in front of hotel is home to numerous bars and restaurants. Hotel and staff are very nice, and the breakfast is great. The restaurant has good food. Thé loc in is good, the old city wall is close as are a few historical sites. Shopping is also close.

The White Star Tavern was an absolutely amazing place for our 1 night stay in Southampton. Great character, atmosphere, and ideal location. Bridget and the rest of the staff could not have been more welcoming and Zach the bartender makes a mean French martini.

We loved everything about this cozy hotel. The patio is really nice in the morning while drinking coffee. The bar had a great selection of English beers and drinks. Our stay included free Full English breakfast and it was outstanding. Our room had a fridge with sparkling spring water, beer and milk all complimentary. Also coffee, expresso and tea included in our room. Nice ropes, I could go on and on. Great place!

The hotel is well located in Southampton,perfect for cruise travellers and a 5 minute walk to ocean terminal.The breakfast was very nice.The room was spacious and clean.The staff were great and I have booked again for my cruise in October.

We stayed at The White Star Tavern before a cruise and overall had a very pleasant experience. The location on Oxford Street is perfect — full of charm and within easy walking distance to the cruise terminal and city sights. The hotel arranged for a cab to pick us up at the hotel to the cruise terminal. It was less than a ten pound fare. The building has a lot of character, and the nautical-inspired décor throughout ties in nicely with Southampton’s maritime past. Dinner at the pub was excellent — fresh, seasonal dishes with great flavour and presentation. Breakfast was my favourite. Our room was comfortable and clean, with thoughtful touches like robes, good toiletries, one gold beer, one water and milk in the minibar. We did have a minor issue with the air conditioning, which wasn’t cooling properly when we arrived. To the staff’s credit, they addressed it and had it resolved after a couple of attempts. One thing to note is the strict 3:00 p.m. check-in time. We arrived from a red-eye flight and were clearly exhausted after lunch. The staff kindly let us check in by 2:30, which we really appreciated — but if you’re arriving early, be aware that they do enforce the check-in time pretty closely. There’s no elevator, so consider that when booking a higher-floor room. Despite a couple of hiccups, we would definitely return. The service, location, and food make it a solid choice — especially for a pre-cruise stay.
