Lost & Found Zanzibar

The vile lady who runs this hostel physically assaulted me. I had given my laundry in the morning, and was told it would take 24 hours. It still wasn’t ready 24 hours later, so I was waiting in my room. When it did come back, it wasn’t properly clean, and it was also wet and smelled mouldy (like it had been sitting in a wet pile since the wash). I therefore said to the lady I didn’t think the full price was fair, and she immediately was extremely extremely rude and aggressive. There was no opportunity to have a constructive conversation with her, even when I explained it wasn’t really fair to pay full price as I’d need to have my washing done elsewhere. Her best offer was a 5000 discount, but given the state of the problem I still didn’t feel paying 25000 for a small laundry load was fair and so walked back to my room to pack up my things and resolve it hopefully with another member of staff.When I came back down stairs with my bag, this lady ran up to me and physically grabbed me screaming at me. The situation was so bad that strangers were coming in from the street telling her to let go of me and trying to intervene. I’ve never ever in my life experienced something like this and will file police report when I return to stone town. I cannot wholeheartedly recommend enough that nobody ever ever stays here.

I recently stayed at this amazing hostel and it exceeded all my expectations! The meals were not only delicious but also diverse, catering to various tastes. The location was ideal, providing easy access to key attractions. The hostel's friendly staff and vibrant atmosphere make it a definite 5-star choice for any traveler.

Our group was very disappointed. After checking out we realised that we have been overcharged by about 50%. (they made us pay late at night when we had just landed and hadn't got used to the Tanzanian currency). We didn't think the hostel would be insincere to charge us a wrong rate. Infact we were charged 4* what we were expecting to pay because they also had a tax that was more than the room price. (which is not easily seen on the booking) In any case, once we realised that we were overcharged by $85, we got in contact with the hostel. Unfortunately they were unwilling to budge on a refund, despite admitting their staff had made a mistake, and wrongfully overcharged us. (we had another booking with them to return 12 days later) My friend spoke to the manager about this who was rude and didn't seem willing to resolve the issue. His only suggestion was to stay here again rather than give us a refund I just can't believe that a hostel would overcharge and then have such a bad attitude about giving a refund on their own mistake. Shockingly appalling. Overall the facilities were to be expected for a budget hostel. Although know now that the hostel costs 15$ rather than 6$ I do think this is expensive for what it is.
