Wessex Hotel

Last Minute Book We had to book this last hotel last minute due to other property we had booked seeming to be a scam so was looking for anywhere close to stay as already in the area. Hotel is very dated but the staff were very friendly. The room was at the front so very noisy with traffic and as the day was hot had to have all the windows open but the room was also so hot with underfloor heating on in the bathroom and the radiators which could not be turned off. Breakfast was good and again waiting staff very friendly. Hotel just needs a good revamp and the heating situation really does need attention.

We stayed here as a part of a dance weekend, arranged by a third party who use the hotel regularly. I was a little wary of what to expect as I'd read some rather poor reviews, but it was better than I expected. OK, it's a little shabby, but for a three star hotel, perfectly adequate. The lift was out of order but it wasn't too onerous to walk up to the second floor. Our room was clean and tidy, but incredibly hot. Even with the radiator turned off and the window open it didn't cool down all that much but I suspect the underfloor heating in the bathroom (bliss!) was the culprit. A hairdryer, iron and ironing board were in the room, but strangely no safe. The food was...adequate. Perfectly edible but hot food on cold plates isn't ideal. The staff were all delightful and attentive.

Perfect location for our trip with easy parking and access to plenty of dining options nearby. Helpful and friendly staff. Clean, basic hotel perfect for our needs. Will definitely co time to use The Wessex
