Burleigh Court Hotel

Second visit to Burleigh Court, planned for my 60th birthday. I was really excited to be returning based on our first visit which was lovely. We booked direct with the hotel by phone and told them that it was for my special occasion. The Top Notch room was reserved, supposedly the best in the hotel, and our package included a dinner credit on both nights. We had email confirmation of our stay asking us to confirm when my birthday was and which night I'd be celebrating, which we responded to. On check in we were shown to our room and that's when the disappointment started to rear it's head. Although it looks lovely, decorated beautifully and with a huge four-poster bed it was a bit grubby with crumbs on the window seat, and some black on the tiles in the shower. The worst bit was the floor, which creaked so badly it was irritating (bare floorboards probably didn't help, but it was most of the floor area). We acknowledge it's an old building but surely someone has noticed. It's not a big job to sort out. The bed, although looks grand and inviting is also really creaky, not comfortable and seems to slope a bit. This was mentioned on check out so hope they've addressed it. Dinner was so-so. It's worth mentioning that they only stock European wines, their ethos is locally sourced where possible so don't expect anything from US, Aus or NZ. Portion-size was ok, but some elements of our choices were missing. If you want any sort of after dinner experience you won't get it. Everyone seems to disappear after dinner service, and even if you sit in the lounge you won't be asked if you want anything, it seemed like they wanted to lock up and leave. We didn't use any of the wellness provision but the gardens are lovely with plenty of areas to sit and get away from it all. Breakfast is excellent here. Good portions, and nothing is too much trouble for the lovely server. In summary, it was an expensive and disappointing stay and I wish I'd chosen somewhere else. I had expected that as they'd made a point of asking when my birthday was there'd be some sort of token or mention but there was nothing whatsoever :( Come on Burleigh Court, you can do better!

Absolutely horrific experience. Filthy floors, filthy sheets, filthy kettle. The front of house was ignorant and dismissive and the housekeepers didn't even return a "good morning". Stay away from this hotel!

Love Burleigh Court l have been several times now. The ambience, stunning surroundings, and beautiful buildings add to its charm. The staff were very polite and welcoming. Thank you. The Wellness garden is stunning 😍 My daughter in law and I thoroughly enjoyed our full body massage 💆‍♂️ thank you John. The pool is refreshing and I enjoyed my swim, Suzy enjoyed the hot tub. Lunch let it down, that's why I have not given 5 stars. We had Welsh rarebit on one slice of sourdough toast each £46. Which I didn't enjoy and flabbergasted at the cost. For just over £300 for our excursion an expensive treat, we won't be able to afford very often.

Came to use the spa garden and for lunch. The grounds are just absolutely beautiful and the staff were unbelievable warm, welcoming and friendly. Garden spa was gorgeous and there are plenty of chairs and loungers to use. The only criticism as someone else has previously mentioned in reviews was the bread used for the sandwiches was quite hard and tough when a nice thick soft loaf was needed and the ham wasn’t up to standard but even this couldn’t spoil our day. We will definitely be returning.

This is a charming hotel, beautiful buildings and well tended gardens Score would be higher but for a couple of important things… We booked a splendid room, 32, and whilst it was nice, not splendid in any way. The description of ‘splendid’ in their briefing is a bit vague, but this room is ordinary, not especially large - tv can only be watched from in bed - nothing special. It’s also a door away from the next room so all that adjacent noise is clearly audible. I’d suggest rebranding this as a ‘ comfortable’ room, which would be correct Probably more importantly, there are flimsy curtains, no blinds, so woke at daybreak due to light streaming in. I’d definitely recommend blackout blinds, this is a dealbreaker for us and without this, wouldn’t return The food is really lovely, we would eat here again, though I’d prefer to add my own gratuity Was not asked how things had been as we checked out which is a shame; I find that when travelling with my husband we tend to get better service - better room, more attentive everything, etc. than when it’s just me and my daughter which is a real shame in 2025

Overall good , we enjoyed our stay . Lovely place and unique building with some lovely facilities. Though given a elevated boutique more attentiveness needed on services for food and drinks bar to improve value.
