Buckingham Place

​In Sri Lanka, there are surely many hotels, each one more different than the last, but there is definitely no other quite like the Hotel Buckingham Place. It’s not just about its privileged location; it's about the magic that surrounds it, the nature, the wonderful rooms, the unbeatable cuisine, and above all, the marvellous staff who work there. ​When you put it all together, you create the best experience, especially when you've been travelling through the spectacular paradise of Sri Lanka for three weeks and decide to finish on a high note. Words can't express our gratitude for the 24/7 care and affection we felt. Everything is looked after down to the smallest detail, and that's thanks to the great Nick, the hotel's owner. ​While all the hotel staff are wonderful—from the dining room and massage area to the housekeeping and bar staff—I would like to highlight the impeccable and kind attention of Sheham, who did everything and more to make our stay perfect. When I return to Sri Lanka in the future, I know that a visit to this wonderful hotel will be an absolute must. ​Thank you and see you soon.

Schitterend paradijs! Fantastisch zwembad met uitzicht op het strand. De kamers heerlijk met mooi uitzicht op de lagoon. Eten is heerlijk en het personeel heel vriendelijk en behulpzaam. De turtle Watch ligt ongeveer naast het hotel dus het is een top plek om schildpadden te spotten. We zijn hier geweest met ons gezin.

Wat een perfecte afsluiting van onze 3 weken in Sri Lanka. Nick en zijn team verwennen je echt in een werkelijk schitterende omgeving. Gastvrijheid kenden we al in Sri Lanka maar hier gaat er nog een schepje bovenop. Het resort is prachtig gelegen aan de kust bij Rekawa (Tangalle). De appartementen zijn heel ruim en voorzien van een hele mooie ruime badkamer. Het eten, de hele dag door, was heerlijk. Super verse producten en iedere avond een andere kaart. Ook nog even een woordje over het zwembad. Hier is relaxen heel makkelijk op een bedje met uitzicht op de Indische Oceaan met zijn prachtige golven. Buckingham Place is een plek die wij iedereen die naar Sri Lanka gaat van harte kunnen aanbevelen.

Waar zal ik beginnen… Aan een prachtig rustig strand met wilde zee ligt Buckingham Place. Een kleurrijk, mooi ingericht kleinschalig hotel dat uit verschillende gebouwen bestaat. De Engelse eigenaar Nick heeft zeer veel oog voor detail, kleuren en comfort. De enorme superschone kamers liggen in losse bijgebouwen in een heerlijke tuin. Het uitzicht vanuit je kamer op de Laguna is fantastisch. En in de vroege ochtends of in de namiddag brengen de apen, mangoesten, pauwen en varanen soms ook even een bezoekje aan de tuin. De staf is niets teveel. Ze zijn vrolijk, vriendelijk en servicegericht. Ze maken de allerlekkerste drankjes en gerechten. Elke dag is er een andere menukaart met heerlijke Singhalese en Europese gerechten. In de spa konden we terecht voor heerlijke massages, schoonheidsbehandelingen en wrappings. Dit is zo’n hotel waar je met een gerust hart nieuwe behandelingen uitprobeert. Wij, een familie van 8 personen, hebben tijdens ons verblijf genoten van het contact met Nick en zijn staf. De verrassend leuke avond met pianist Sanjay. Die van elke popsong een eigen jazzy versie maakt. Kunstenaar Sonny die zijn eigen atelier in het hotel heeft. De infinitypool met bar in het water, het poolbiljart en zo kan ik nog wel even doorgaan. En last but not least was het heel fijn om in een hotel te verblijven met oog voor duurzaamheid. Bijna geen plastic te bekennen, waterrecyclingsysteem en beperking van voedselverspilling door het afwisselende menu. Kortom als je relaxed wil genieten dan is dit de plek!

Just superb. I had high expectations before I came but once here my experience exceeded my expectations. The staff were outstanding, so friendly and happy. The food was excellent and the dinner was different every night. Our time here was so relaxing, peaceful and Nick, the owner, was so helpful. Couldn’t fault our time here and can highly recommend this hotel.

What a wonderful hotel. Where to start? The colours everywhere are just a dopamine hit (think Miami 1990's with a mid-century touch). The staff are incredibly helpful, professional and kind. Nick, the owner and spirit of the hotel is a generous host and charming raconteur who enjoys meeting everyone and creates a feeling of welcome and ease. The food is delicious and the menu outstanding. Everything about the hotel is of a high standard and really well thought-out (though we didn't discover the swim up bar until the day we were leaving. This will require another visit). Thank you so much for a really memorable stay.
