The Oaklands Hotel

DO NOT use this hotel as a wedding venue, absolutely disgusted. The staff are rude, the food is dreadful. Raw chicken wings been up all night with upset tummy. Absolutely gutted for the bride and groom save for their dream wedding and it turned into a nightmare. Defo give it a miss

This used to be a nice well run place but hadn’t been there for a couple of years and what a change. I was there in a business capacity, carrying out a service at a wedding and was appalled at the poor service the bridal couple were experiencing. At one point I was compelled to seek out the wedding organiser who was found lounging in a back room instead of overseeing proceedings and actually doing his job. After the service my husband and I decided to have lunch at the hotel restaurant - what a mistake. We eat out a lot but this was the worst meal we’ve had. Everything looked ok at first, hubby had the pie of the day and I chose Caesar salad. The pie was full of watery gravy and rubbery pieces of meat, along with mediocre veg and a jug of “ gravy” which was so thick it fell out in thick heavy unappetising globules. At least they couldn’t mess up a salad…… or could they? The salad (which was a mix of cos and baby leaf spinach - not romaine) was scattered with some large chunks of dry grilled chicken but mainly 1” chunks of stale bread croutons. The first large lettuce leaf I picked up had obviously not been washed as the stem was sprinkled with dirt, the next leaf was worse - in fact it was so bad I had to ask the waitress to bring a side plate to put it all on. She agreed it was bad and asked if I wanted another salad but I’d had enough. When I went to pay the manager was in the bar and the waitress called him over. I told him how upset we were and that there were obviously problems in there kitchen - his response………”I’m sorry you were disappointed, I’ll tell the chef” We certainly won’t be returning there and can’t recommend it to anyone else. The only good thing I can say is that the waiting staff seemed very nice and friendly and the issues obviously aren’t their fault but there are serious issues with the management there.

Best Service Ever What can I say the service was still 5 star even when I got home. Anie & Vicky are just on another level of service. Thank you so much for my Apple Watch Charger being returned to me! I know it’s a small thing but it’s how it was dealt with!! Next time in Norwich, that will be the Hotel for sure I will be staying at. I stay away up to say 100 times a year and by far this has risen to the top!! Thank you Thank you again Vicky/Anie

I booked breakfast for my family as a birthday treat before picking up the boats we had hired. The day before I received an email asking me to pre order our meals. I was sent the menu but with no kids breakfast on there I queried it. Apparently it's no longer available and no smaller portions or reduced rate meals available either. The only option is the little breakfast. If I'd been informed earlier I would have cancelled and looked elsewhere. With such short notice I had no choice but to go ahead with our booking. On the morning we arrived we we were met with a a very grumpy waitress who treated us as an inconvenience. I'd booked outdoor but I was informed the table had been laid inside. We were told we needed to hurry up and decide what other food we wanted because the chef was waiting. I think the food was ok but the whole experience spoiled our day and next time we will look for a restaurant who wants our custom.

We had our wedding here a few weeks ago and quite honestly, we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I want to give specific shout outs to Hollie, Aaron and Victoria for all of their hard work. Everything was simply perfect from start to finish! Please don’t hesitate to book your wedding here, because you won’t regret it.

Had my wedding here it was the most amazing,magical experience. Aaron and Victoria went out of their way to make sure we have the best day and we are so thankful, would definitely recommend. Food was delicious and the staff were so attentive.
