Lake Mainstay Resort

I booked a Lakeview Cinderella cottage and was given a Cinderella cottage in the back of the resort. MAINSTAY, for the love of god, you cannot expect to charge the prices you do and not have proper air conditioning in your rooms. The windows in Cinderella Cottage are wooden louvers with a tiny mesh covering there is no way the AC would get that cottage remotely cool because the windows are not properly secure. You need to make this CLEAR on your page Temperatures in Guyana are close to 100 degrees and individuals who have extenuating health conditions depend on air conditioning to help alleviate their symptoms especially if your asthmatic as I am. I had heard so many great things about MAINSTAY but was extremely disappointed with the service. When we checked in, the individual at the front desk was very monotone and did not inform me or remind me of my resort credit. In the morning the pleasant woman then informed me of the resort credit. She was accommodating I wished I had her name to give her flowers. BUT if this is your best hospitality I sure do not want to know your worst.

The lake and beach are great and I’d recommend this place for a day trip. However, I WOULD NOT recommend an overnight stay here. As other reviewers have mentioned the cabins are extremely dated and need A LOT of work, especially given the price. I’m writing this review at 5:47AM as it’s pissing rain outside and I was awoken by water droplets falling on my face in bed! It’s a lake cabin so I won’t complain too much about mosquitos since that’s somewhat expected but the leaky cabin roof and what look like ants crawling all over the stand in the bedroom, where clean towels are left, is completely unacceptable.

our vacation at mainstay was amazing. The staff were very friendly and accommodating upon arrival. We were blown away by the food which was prepared to perfection. The goat curry was very tender and flavorful. The beach area has beatiful clean sand which our kids loved to play in. The water was amazing, warm and extremely clean. At night, we went to the bar area on the beach which played great music and even better drinks. Mainstay is definitely recommended for anyone looking for a great time.

WHAT A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! This place is run down, the staff are either stupid or not adequately trained, the corners of the property are very dirty. There are bottles, plastic cups and debris in too many places. We were served warm food, instead of hot food most of the time. The actual resort does not look like what the pictures online are showing. DON'T GET FOOLED, THIS PLACE IS NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY.

The staff was very helpful. The atmosphere was great. It’s a great place to stay. They are a few details that was not good. The bed was very uncomfortable. There was no coffee machine or microwave. The food was good but it took a long time.

LONG BUT PLEASE READ UNTIL THE END! Absolutely disappointing!!!!! A Mike Holmes on Homes reno waiting to happen! Lets start with the good stuff. The staff was very accommodating and the water felt amazing. Now all the bad....We arrived at night, the resort is very dark and has different elevations which are not conducive to individuals who have mobility issues (more lighting to the cabins NEEDED stat!) my mother asked for a gulf cart LOL!! We arrive at the cabins and oh my, my...there's a bed as soon as you enter thru louver doors (yes your front door is louver and there is NO mesh screen, so hello creepy crawlers). The windows in our cabin had no glass only a mesh frame and louver shutter. The bathroom lort yall...I actually asked the staff when was the last time the toilet was cleaned "we freshened up was the response I received". Once again NOT ADA at all, no grab bars and the toilet is about 12 inches from the ground and did I mention it's like brown (I understand I'm Guyana and the water is red/brown but there's filters for that). The shower looks like something from a DIY gone wrong, the shower fixtures are 2 SHUT OFF VALVES to control the water temp. you know the things you find behind a wall or in the basement. The showers head looked like something was growing out of it (we took very short showers). Oh did I mention the junction box is in the shower, please don't splash too much because you will not leave the same way you came. The counter that's over the mini fridge has an weird slope so items will fall off. Now our room wait for it we share an AC unit yep these genius DIYers cut an opening in-between the 2 rooms so you share the AC. Well I'm in a cabin with my parents who are used to the heat since they retired and now living in GT and I'm hot as hell. My AC needs to be 63 they are ok with 70 maybe well that was and experience one day I woke up to my father with a towel on his head cause he was cold but I digress. The bedroom had a good size queen bed but why is the end table under a dressing table (less is more sometimes people take out the excess furniture) now omg guys take you Aleve cause your back, your neck, it's gonna hurt, the mattress is max 4 inches and you feel all the slats under you. Remember you louver window with no glass and louver doors come day 2 that net came in quite handy thanks for that! The towels now yall know hotel towels are the best, soft and just different, well not here! Even though the room was set up to accommodate 5 people you are only given 3 towels and are told you need to request more upon check in. We also requested beach towels well of the 4 that were sent one had a HUGE hole in it and should have been used a s a floor cloth. Now lets talk food once again the staff tried but people, people, people, why is my pizza so sweet and thick ( chef please look up pizza dough recipe even a deep dish isn't that tick)....they put carrots in the red sauce of my pepperoni pizza.
