My recent experience at Maya Luxury The Quila Udaipur was extremely frustrating. I had personally reached out to Mr. Bhaskar from the corporate office prior to booking to ensure that the hotel serves both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. He explicitly told me that there are non-vegetarian options. I proceeded to make the reservation as a result. I was taken aback when I checked in and was told by the manager Shouvik that the property serves only pure vegetarian food not only at the restaurant but without exception. His explanation was that this unique policy is meant for Gujarati patrons and, for some reason, at the hotel’s location in Rajasthan. Disappointment quickly turned to anger. Singularly focused marketing mismanaged to consider the rest of their clientele which damages trust, reputation and business. That level of unprofessionalism is astonishing and disgraceful. Adding to my issues, absolutely nowhere on the booking portals or hotel’s website is this outright restriction listed. Not even for breakfast were they willing to provide any non-vegetarian food. This glaring detail was only revealed after I had already paid the full sum. It is an astonishingly overt example of undermining the law and ethical business practices. When I brought this to the attention of Mr. Neeraj Shrimal, the so-called owner of the hotel, I was assured he would "look into it" but was unsurprisingly let down. My relaxing weekend getaway turned into an upsetting and frustrating experience. The vegetarian food they served? Tasteless. They served a premium Aloo-Pyaz ki sabzi - I can say it was poorly prepared, and easily ranked as one of the worst things I've had in my life. Tasteless, uninspired and an misrepresentation of Rajasthani cuisine. If you are a non-Gujarati traveller, or expect to have a complete culinary experience, I recommend you avoid this property. The hotel clearly caters to a specific demographic, while marketing itself as a luxury experience for all. What I experienced was definitely not luxury, it was bait and switch. Take my advice: go somewhere else.
