We arrived at reception and had a pleasant welcome. I asked if we could change the room from 1 Queen Bed to 2 singles (i was with my son). Was told this was possible - please wait and we will make your room. No problem. 20 odd minutes later was told this is not possible, need to upgrade cost is €15. Ok I agreed, and payed then. Took another 20 mins to change the booking which i felt was a bit too long. Room was nice and suited our needs, nice bathroom and shower no problem. In the morning came down to reception to check out. Different staff as expected. But was asked to pay for the room. I proved that my booking had already been paid - months ago. I was then asked to pay for the upgrade. I explained that i had already paid the day before and showed the proof on my bank statement. Was told i need to pay an additional €10 as the price has changed. I objected and said that is not acceptable. I was then asked to pay for breakfast, but we had not had any breakfast so I refused again. I was then asked to pay the city tax - which may have been paid originally but after much negotiation and 2 other members of staff joining, i relunctantly paid an additional €2.8 or similar so that i could leave.
All in, this totally ruined the experience, after pre-paying and paying upfront I should not have to spend more than 30mins to negotiate check-out. Because of this other customers approached the reception and then left again. I must stress that neither party lost our temper or shouted, but it was very stressful. It appears the system is a shambles and did not help the poor lady behind the desk who seemed totally exasperated. It was suggested that should i pay again then she would have to fund the difference herself. This amounts to blackmail, and I wholly hope the management behind this hotel do not seriously expect the staff to fund the inadequate function of the computer system that has been installed. Please rectify this poor situation immediately.
