Hattvika Lodge

My fiancé and I are frequent travelers, and we've never come across such amazing hospitality. Everyone at Hattvika Lodge was so incredibly friendly and helpful. Some highlights for us were seeing the northern lights from our room, going arctic sea kayaking, relaxing in the sauna and then cold plunging into the harbor (yes it's hard, but you must do it! You will be super energetic for the rest of the day) and indulging in the 3 course meal at their restaurant Fangst. It was so delicious, especially with the wine pairing. We highly recommend staying here! 10/10

It was better than OK. But having stayed there, even a pretty good experience IRL couldn't live up to the hyped up expectations, which had been built up by their awesome website. We stayed in one of the newer cabins. Everything in the cabin was modern and clean and uncluttered -- the cabin delivers the whole Scandinavian aesthetic, so yes it felt special. If you go in the summer, it was hot in the cabin each afternoon with the sun, if that bothers you. Breakfast is funky in that it comes with a lot of earnest instruction and interruptions. It was well-intentioned but we both felt like children being told what to try. We are super adventurous, but man, we just wanted to eat breakfast -- so we could get out the door to our hike, kayak, etc. So for us, it wasn't the time to try all these different types of cod liver oil, cheeses, juices, etc. If you don't mind that or it actually sounds appealing, then we recommend breakfast. The view where they serve breakfast was a pleasure to take in. Finally, we really appreciate their commitment to the environment and local resources -- as well as how their operations including recycling are so well kept and caringly managed. Thank you Hattvika for caring so much in everything you do!

This hotel is a gem. When you go to a hotel where they treat you like you are family, make every attempt to make you feel special and taken care of you, you need to stay there. This place is beautiful, perfectly managed, great views, great service, great food and amazing staff. Not everyday the owner of the hotel picks you at the airport, takes you around a tour of the island, waves good morning to you and comes and says goodbye personally. One of the best hotel experiences I have had. Highly recommended!

Absolutely everything about this place is wonderful. Located in a quite corner of land on the water, we stayed in one of the restored cottages that had a great view. The room itself was very comfortable and well appointed. A highlight was the food. Most of the tables are along a big window with a gorgeous view of the water. We saw sea eagles from our table. Of equal importance, the qualify of the food was outstanding! Finally, while we had guides to the area, we relied quite a bit on the owner for hiking and driving route recommendations. Every recommendation was spot on. We also did a privately guided kayak trip through the lodge that was outstanding.

It was just a magical experience for us - sea kayaking with Kristian, some of the most stunning views and hikes I’ve ever seen, sauna with multiple dips in the Norwegian Sea, and last but not least the spectacular food at their restaurant, Fangst. The mushroom soup was mind blowing! Many, many thanks to all of the wonderful staff and for the memories. We will be back 😀

What an incredible place, our only regret is that we didn’t stay longer. From the moment we arrived we were impressed. Tim and Maria showed us to our hillside room that had a breath taking water front view. The room was very clean with lots of storage for clothing and gear. Our bed was very comfortable and situated below a skylight to allow for northern lights spotting. If you are an active person this is THE place to stay as you are surrounded by gorgeous hiking trails of all levels of difficulty. We did lots of hiking and even had a spectacular kayak tour with the owner, Christian, who gave us wonderful insight into the surrounding area (and recommended an afternoon hike that turned to be one of our best ever). 🙏
