Griffin Hotel, an Official Colonial Williamsburg Hotel

We stayed at the Griffin, which is an “official” Colonial Williamsburg Hotel, as part of our family’s East Coast Road trip. Actually, the Griffin is a newer annex to the Williamsburg Inn. It does not have a lobby, front desk, restaurant, or pool. Those amenities are located at the Williamsburg Inn. The Griffin is super convenient and you can walk to all the attractions of Colonial Williamsburg. Our room was very large, clean, comfortable, and quiet. It even had a balcony overlooking a pond. Finally, their front desk staff and the concierge were friendly, professional, and helpful. While we enjoyed the warm pool, it was quite a trek from our room. It also closes way too early (8 PM). All in all, we enjoyed our stay at the Super Convenient & Comfortable Griffin.

When arriving we checked in through the main house ( Williamsburg Inn?) by staff who were exceptional. The check in process, professionalism, hospitality and ease of check in was second to none. Our reservations were made for the Gold Wing house which was just a short distance from the main inn. When arriving to the Gold Wing House, it was very different than the Inn but nice. When we got to our room, it was noticable that it was a dated room and building but also possibly not well attended either which was strange considering the staff was exceptional the entire time. The room was very large, well furnished but had a wet musky smell to it. There were several stains in the carpet which gave an unclean feel. We gave grace due to the potential age until using the sofa that turned into a bed. When we opened the sofa into the bed, it still had sheets on it and food in them from previous guests. We contacted the front desk and someone came with new sheets and offered to change it. We used 3 sets of sheets for the sofa bed and disinfectant. It was good enough to get us through the night considering we was only staying one night. The rate was average to other hotels in the area but not worth what we felt we received. The experience of checking in and experiencing the main house was incredible but very different unfortunately to the experience when we arrived to our room. No doubt with some attention, the Gold Wing would be a nice place also. Great check inn, great staff but the cleanliness and maintenance of the Gold Wing needs some help.

We stayed here on a drive from Maryland to the Outer Banks.I really wanted to love this hotel. The price was right (compared to the Williamsburg Inn) and the room was spacious, with a lovely balcony overlooking a lake and fountain. However, the room was shabby, with marks on the wall and stains on the carpet. It was badly in need of an upgrade, or at least a refresh. And there is no elevator. Not a problem for us; we were on the first floor, but it would have been a problem to get our bags upstairs. On our way back from OBX we switched to the Williamsburg Lodge, and were much more satisfied.

We stumbled upon The Griffin while searching for hotels near William & Mary / Colonial Williamsburg area. Available dates/rates fit what we were looking for. The hotel has become a favorite location for us when visiting. It sits just off Colonial Williamsburg area, nestled in the trees. The rooms are large, quiet and the perfect place to rest after a busy day. While the bathrooms may be a little dated, the large space provided makes it easy to overlook, and adds to the charm of The Griffin. You have access to walking paths through the property, the pool shared by the Williamsburg Inn and Lodge, as well restaurants and spa. Staff is very attentive and a nice resource. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. We love the big deck overlooking the pond. Location is great. The amenities of the Inn are excellent, including a great gym and pool. If you happen to be a rower, they have a Concept2 erg. This is my go-to in the 'burg and now it feels like home.

I’ve never taken down a review and redid it before. But my last review was buried within days by bot reviews. The room is nice but the Griffin is basically a renovated convention hall. There’s nothing rustic about it. It’s not in the middle of if old town Williamsburg. There’s no lobby or restaurant on premises. Worst part is check in is a quarter mile away at the Inn. There are much better places to stay in Williamsburg.
