Thornton Hall Hotel & Spa

Came for a wedding here which went perfectly thanks to all the staff making it so special. Special thank you to Dawn who was looking after us for breakfast and was so friendly, making us and the bride feel so comfortable. Perfect place for a perfect wedding :)

Staff are excellent. Kim Smith Spa manager was excellent. She went out of her way to help us with a meal reservation. The Spa is nice but getting a bit dated in parts. I thought is was very money grabbing charging if you want to go to the spa on the day you leave. Never experienced this in any other hotel. So that’s disappointing really.

A magnificent choice for a short break with a spa. Wonderful location and surroundings. Excellent facility in rooms. Great breakfast. Brilliant friendly staff.

We stayed on the Wowcher deal (great value for money). All staff from start to finish were exceptional and had outstanding customer service. We really enjoyed our stay and will be returning

Me and my girlfriend ordered a double jd and coke and medium glass of rose wine! I could not belive it when they said £32!!! I find that shocking.

It was our first time in this hotel - we’d done many spa breaks at other hotels but Thornton was one we’d always wanted to try. We stayed in room 5, one of the character bedrooms. It looked majestic and opulent and we loved the bath with TV. But then you notice some irksome things such as a dirty window you could hardly see out of and peeling walls. We were disappointed to find that you could only use spa and gym facilities on the day of arrival but not the next morning before you check out. Every other spa hotel we’ve stayed at you could at least use the gym the next morning! That was a big let down. We paid for the couple rasul treatment which was very underwhelming. A therapist quickly popped in the room with a bored look and gave us rushed instructions then just left. We were baffled! Certainly not the decadent experience we were hoping for. I couldn’t believe we had to pay £8.50 to hire a robe - they have always been included in other spa breaks which were much cheaper! Notably the thermal facilities however were very nice - I enjoyed using these. The gym was also very well equipped. Wifi is not worth it - not functional at all and gave up in the end! Breakfast was truly a let down - astonishingly so. For a 4 star hotel and costing nearly £300 for 1 night, it was very disappointing to see tinned rather than fresh pineapple, bruised apples, and sliced meats with nothing savoury to go with them. Milk was also UHT rather than fresh so had to go upstairs to retrieve my own milk from the fridge. We had to dig to find a clean plate too. Also many hotels have a drinks machine so you can make your own speciality drink - absolutely astounded to see that if you wanted something like a latte or cappuccino you had to pay extra! Also if you wanted eggs cooked a certain way you had to pay a fee for that - crazy when many hotels with a lower star have their own eggs station. Big feeling for me was this hotel tries to give you as little as possible for the price you pay and attempt to squeeze as much money extra out of you as possible. Certainly not somewhere I’d go to again - much nicer spa hotels out there for half the price!!
