The Vue Boutique Hotel & Boathouse

8/17/2025 If you’re looking to book at The VUE Boutique Hotel & Boathouse, in Wisconsin Dells-let me save you the trouble—it should be renamed The Cockroach Heaven Inn (Across the Street Edition). When you book online, you’ll see gorgeous pictures of river and bridge views. Reality? You’ll be dumped in a dingy motel across the street, with parking across the street too. The only “view” I got was of dirty, fogged-up windows that looked like they hadn’t been cleaned since the Cold War. Honestly, sitting inside felt like being locked somewhere in Russia, staring out at a world I couldn’t escape. Check-in? Don’t expect early. They’ll make you wait until after 4:00 PM—mine came at 4:10 with a lazy text. The staff? Rough around the edges and quick with excuses about being “short on help,” even though the whole town is full of seasonal workers and every other hotel seemed to be running fine. And let’s talk about the floors. They sweep the dirt from the wood floors outside the rooms, so when you roll in your luggage, congratulations—you’ve just tracked all of yesterday’s filth right back in. It’s a brilliant recycling system: dirt goes out, dirt comes back in. After 35+ years of traveling, I’ve never had a place scream “cockroach heaven” quite like this one. The only thing missing was actual cockroaches—but don’t worry, the atmosphere makes up for it. If you’re booking here expecting bridge views, clean rooms, or even basic professionalism, beware. You’ll get none of it—unless you really wanted the “locked-in-a-motel-across-the-street” experiene!

First, I do agree with other reviewers that this is definitely not a boutique hotel. In fact, there is nothing deluxe about it other than the view of the river. That said, we did enjoy our stay here. Pros: the view was really lovely from our 5th floor River view rooms (king room with balcony for my husband and I, 2 queen room for our adult son). The sunset on our last evening there was breathtaking. I couldn’t find another hotel in the area with a view like this, so we were definitely impressed by that. The hotel does have a good location within walking distance of the main road, which includes the boat tours. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and everything worked including the Wi-Fi. The AC unit was excellent at keeping our top-floor room cool, which isn’t easy to do in August. Mini-fridge and small microwave in the room also worked. It was very quiet during our stay. We did visit Land of Natura (included in the room charge) and went over to the DNR area with the natural beach and the treetop walkway in the woods. That was very nice. It’s off-site, though. Cons: The room is very basic with a really small bathroom. It is too narrow for the (mismatched) furniture that is currently in there. The balcony is very small, too. It is absolutely not a boutique or upscale hotel. The parking lot is too small, so there were times when we had to park across the street. I feel bad for people who are staying on the 1st or 2nd floor of the main building because they will get noise from people going to the pool, laundry room, lobby, etc. There’s really no reason to stay at this hotel unless you get a river view room on the 3rd floor or higher.

This place definitely earned an average rating from us. We stayed in the "motel" portion across the street from the main hotel. Room was clean and surprisingly bigger than I expected. (Our room faced the street, so maybe that was why) Biggest complaint was terrible Wi-fi and everything in the bathroom was low....toilet, sink, shower head. From what I saw of the other building, I wouldn’t classify this as a boutique hotel. But the price was good when we stayed and we liked the other activities that were included with our stay.

I was nervous about this one after reading the negative reviews but am VERY happy to say, this place was totally fine. It's not the Hilton, so expect rooms that are dated, maybe a little more "motel" than "hotel" and "boutique" absolutely doesn't describe this place. But, the rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable, the staff were friendly, and it comes with free parking and tix to a pretty great water park (which honestly costs more than the room for a family of 4) so I don't know, I was pretty OK with our stay.

It was a decent hotel. It was very loud though. One night at 4:00 am there was a loud disturbance with a guest and the police. It woke me up. Other than that it was an ok visit. The windows were very dirty and the price was a little steep for what you got.

Will not recommend! Credit the Views Web team- but the room itself was one of the worst ever.. Only 1 working plug in for the 2_Queen w/Balcony, & no phone in room for assistance. Toilet at near floor level,& while photos showed a good size room, it was the smallest it could be & still hold 2 beds. Restaurant & it's staff was great though! Just don't book a room here.
