Zen Garden Resort, Zanka

The place is pleasant and relaxing but lacks any ‘wow’ factor. It is clearly an old children's summer camp which has been re-purposed and needs more work on it, especially the gardens, to turn it into the ‘zen’ resort it craves to be. The bungalow is adequate, clean and functional even if pre-fabricated, with decent amenities. The staff were friendly. But the biggest disappointment was the food - breakfast and dinner included in the price - which frankly was a very poor buffet and extremely poor value (it cost us €50 per day for an extra guest). Bedrooms were not cleaned nightly, in fact there was no cleaning service for the 5 days we stayed there. At almost €300 per night I would not recommend as value for money.

Everything was perfect. The place is amazing. You have everything for relax and good mood. A place where you can go with family and friends. Good food, friendly staff. Any problem you have is solved quickly.

We stayed at the resort for four nights this month. The staff is very accommodating, friendly and professional and a credit to the resort. The grounds are well maintained as was the housing unit we stayed in, a two story A frame. The restaurant, and the only place to eat on site is terrible. The stairs leading to the restaurant are damaged and unsafe, with no attempt to repair while we were there. The breakfast buffet (included in the reservation) was the best meal of the day, and varied somewhat. The lunch menu selection, is not included, and which is terrible is the same each and everyday. There are two soups, one starter, six non vegetarian selections and five different pizzas’ as well as only two desserts. The dinner buffet (also included) lacked quality, variety and presentation. The drink menu was three or more pages long and had a wide variety of drinks to purchase. They did not offer water to drink. We ordered “still” water in a .07 carafe. It came in a chilled bottle, similar to what other restaurants offer for free, though they charged 4.24 Euro for each unsealed bottle that filled three small drinking glasses. It looked and tasted like it was tap water, though they claimed it was “filtered” water. Seven of our party of eight stayed there last year and stated that the food selection and quality had declined significantly and as a result will not return next year.

We stayed at the large house for 4 days. Total of 6 of us. The gardens are beautiful and well kept around the pool/lake area. The comp sauna in the evening by the pool was excellent and the sauna master was amazing. The team at front gate reception were hospitable. The bedding and pillows were very comfortable and the bedding linen was very clean. The nature around the resort speaks to you. The house felt occupied and the bedrooms are very small. Cleanliness of the house was average. Rooms not serviced during the stay. Not enough toilet paper for 6 persons. Not enough pool towels. Outdoor furniture was full of dead insects. Light fitting in bedroom broken. Two remotes for 4 AC units. Very annoying during the night. No dish clothes in kitchenette. Stained green sofa. Morning breakfast pleasant. The scrambled eggs and coffee were very good. Breakfast service was top notch and very attentive. Thankyou! Dinner had a limited menu. Soups were always amazing especially the Asian soup. The tuna tarter was a surprise. Buffet was not well light and the food area was dull. Use phone torch to see food. Service at dinner was average ＞ the team lacks smiles. We booked a particular table for dinner before the restaurant opened. We arrived on time for dinner and the table was given to other guests. Why? They ran out of reserved table signs. Sad! The bar at the lake/pool never opened and we were always told that it will open tomorrow. We had to bring our own beers from Aldi! Burned down hut/house on the property grounds by the Balaton lake was a poor sight and dangerous for kids. Ping pong tables with NO bats avd balls. Fussball table with NO fuss balls. Sports area is dark after sunset. Volley ball needs change. Basketball net needs change. Too many bees but that must be a seasonal case. Lake pool access is difficult as no ladders are installed to get inside the pool and to exit. Value for money ＞ not really.
