Walking through Angkor Wat, I was overwhelmed by a profound sense of awe and wonder. The ancient stones seemed to whisper stories of a bygone era, and I couldn't help but feel a deep connection to the history and culture of Cambodia. Standing in front of the intricate carvings and towering spires, I was struck by the craftsmanship and dedication that went into building this masterpiece. When it comes to World Heritage Sites in Cambodia, Angkor Wat is the name that comes to mind🇰🇭 Known as the world's largest Buddhist temple, it was built in the first half of the 12th century📝 In Khmer, Angkor Wat means 'City Temple', and it took about 30 years to construct! This time, I got up early to see the sunrise from Angkor Wat☀️ In front of the Angkor Wat buildings, there's a lotus pond, and you can enjoy the reflection as well🪞 While midday is nice, the sunrise at Angkor Wat was absolutely beautiful!

Truly the experience of a lifetime! We took a tour to see the sunrise over the temple and it was truly an amazing site. Almost the entire temple complex is open to be explored. You can visit the first, second, and the top levels of the temple. It was originally built as a Hindu Temple and was later converted into a Buddhist temple. Tons of history at the site. Beautiful carvings in the walls.

All of them are located right in the jungle and represent somewhere restored, somewhere abandoned ruins. Actually, it's not quite like that. Angkor Wat is a temple complex, one of the largest in the world. The complex is located on the territory of the city of Angkor (without Wat), like many other temples. Including the Bayon Temple, or the temple with faces. The Angkor Wat temple itself is so impressive in its size, and previously shone with luxurious decoration, that it is not surprising that its appearance was associated with higher forces, namely, with the will of the god Indra. Mythological version Once upon a time, a ruler had a son named Preah Ket Mealea, whose name means Divine Radiance. Historical Version In fact, the temple was built during the reign of Emperor Suryavarman II, who lived at the turn of the XI and XII centuries. His subjects revered him as the incarnation of the god Vishnu on earth. And then the emperor decided to build a temple dedicated to Vishnu. It became Angkor Wat - the earthly home of the emperor and his tomb. The construction lasted for about 40 years, and the temple was almost completed, but after the death of the emperor, work on the temple was stopped. Therefore, in some places, the decoration of the facades has not been completed. The temple was built of black and gray sandstone, which was quarried at quarries located 40 km from the construction site and delivered along the Siem Reap River. It is estimated that the construction took about 5 million tons of stone. No mortar was used to fasten the stone blocks. The stone blocks were tightly fitted to each other, so they are held only by the gravity of their own weight - it remains to be surprised at the skills of Khmer architects and builders.

Angkor Wat is one of the world’s largest religious complexes and as a result there are many temples to explore. You can do this on foot partly, but your tuktuk driver will take you round the loop to visit all the sites. We were finished by lunchtime as it is a lot of walking and an early start, but this should definitely be on every travellers bucket list! #culturalattraction
