A conveniently located hotel right next to the JR station. Rooms are clean, plenty of eateries & shopping within the vicinity. The beds are hard which will work for people who prefer harder beds. It’s also a short walk to the Kokura Castle. A great base for people planning to travel to the kitakhyshu region.

Can’t ask for a better location as the hotel is literally at the exit of Hakata station and had 2 Family Mart downstairs. The room was very spacious at 18m2 with ample space for a suitcase and had a massage chair in it. There was a lobby area with free coffee for guests to relax in. Service was ok, we didn’t have much interaction. There is no noise from being near a busy station at all. The only issue was the housekeeping as we would find our disposable empty coffee cups and other trash still in the room though we requested for garbage or housekeeping to be thrown away.

The location is great!!! There's also a Don Quijote nearby. But I don't recommend it if you're a light sleeper. I heard snoring that I've never heard before..ㅎㅎ The facilities are so great that I think it would be great for a 1-night stay. The shower room is spacious and clean for a single person, which is nice! They also give you pajamas. I think I'll go back for a 1-night stay again. I was very, very satisfied! It was cozy, so I slept well.ㅎㅎ

Excellent location. Good variety of buffet breakfast items, however lack of insufficient staff for food and utensils replacement and table cleaning. A long queue for entry and getting food. Green tea machines have been broken down for a few days, but no alternative individual tea bag provided. It needs to be improved.

This is my second business trip. It is very close to where we are going, but the surrounding convenience stores and restaurants are not within walking distance, which is inconvenient without a car. The breakfast is delicious, but there are few choices for dinner. Although the room is not big, it is very clean and has everything it needs.

More convenient if using a car, parking is free however parking lots may be full at night so better to reach earlier at the hotel. There's also free onsen facilities and a comics room, and there's two buildings so might be confusing when navigating around the hotel. Overall experience is a good stay.

I originally booked this hotel by mistake but was pleasantly surprised by some aspects of my stay. Tthe location was quite far from Fukuoka, where I had intended to stay for a concert. I arrived at the hotel around 11:30 AM–12 PM after an early morning flight, unaware that check-in wasn’t until 3 PM. When I approached the front desk, the receptionist—a young girl—gave me a strange look before informing me of the check-in time. The lack of warmth in her greeting was disappointing, especially compared to my experiences at other hotels in Japan. The weather on February 6, the day of my arrival, was harsh—it was very windy as it was cold, and I had to walk from Seto bus stop to the hotel with two suitcases in freezing conditions. Exhausted from my flight and journey to Munakata, I had hoped for a more welcoming atmosphere. Instead, after a brief trip to a nearby Lawson to grab food, I returned to the hotel and waited in the lobby, as it was too cold to explore. By 2 PM, fatigue took over, and I lay down on the lobby couch to rest. Despite dozing off in the cold lobby, no staff member approached me. The heating system inside the hotel was weak, and I kept waking up from the biting cold. At 2:30 PM, I heard guests checking in, which surprised me—no one had informed me that I could start checking in earlier. When I lined up at the front desk, the same receptionist from earlier recognized me but seemed to push her colleague forward to assist me, which I found rude and unprofessional for a staff member at a four-star hotel. However, her colleague was kind and attentive. Since I speak Japanese, the check-in process went smoothly. There was an error on my part regarding my booking—I had mistakenly reserved my stay until February 10 instead of February 9. I explained this at the front desk, and the staff member tried to help but apologized, as the booking was made through a third-party site and couldn’t be refunded. I understood this and simply wanted to inform them of my earlier departure. The hotel itself is old but well-maintained. I stayed in a Japanese-style room, which, despite its age, was clean and comfortable. The air-conditioning unit was quite old, but amenities were available on the first floor. The hotel seems to be popular with families or tour groups. There are a lot of Korean guests as well. Even for a business hotel, customer service toward foreign solo travelers was severly lacking. It's embarassing to think that was the kind of training they gave their employees at a four star hotel. I'm writing this review while staying at Comfort Hotel, a cheaper chain of hotel but the omotenashi I received here is on another level. There isn’t much to do nearby Mercure Munakata. The closest kaisendon restaurant was about a 30-minute walk away. Unfortunately, the weather during my stay was terrible—windy and snowy—so I didn’t explore much. There was a church (?) next to the hotel, but nothing else of note. One of the highlights of the stay was the hot spring, which had both indoor and outdoor baths. I didn’t eat at the hotel restaurant, as the prices seemed high. A free shuttle bus is available to Togo Station, but you need to inform the front desk of your preferred departure time in advance. I didn’t take many photos of the hotel itself—there wasn’t much worth capturing besides the bath, where phones aren’t allowed. Would I stay here again? No. Would I recommend this hotel? No, especially not for solo foreign travelers.

Location is 30mins drive from fukuoka. 6000yen from Hakata station or Tenjin area. Excellent hotel. The hot spring closes at 11pm and opens in the morning. Hot tub for both men and women looks the same with stone work tub. Stayed for two nights. The breakfast is absolutely amazing and is different every morning delivered straight to room!!! Kudos for the friendly staff and great accommodations

GGuest User1. Very spacious room for this price point to be honest. Could be because it's not a major city... 2. Kitchen equipment like induction cooker and pot and bowls and utensils were provided! Makes it possible to cook your own meals (or even just Maggie mee) fridge was very big so can buy drinks to store 3. Location was alright. Located along small alley but very near main road leading to shopping street and Kokura station. 4. Aircon and heater worked well. Great for winter weather 5. Bathroom ventilator was very strong. To the extent that it feels very cold after taking a shower. We tried closing the bathroom door at night and it was literally like a freezer in the morning when we open it. But also because of the ventilator, our clothes dried fast indoors 🥶 6. Now to the pain points. First got to be the facility management and check in check out process. This property does auto check in meaning there is no physical staff to handle your check in check out throughout. There is no receptionist at all. I made my booking 2- 3 hours prior to arriving at property. At the front door we were prompted to input entry passcode which we had no idea what it was (it's not the reservation number provided by the booking partner like Agoda or trip.com) tried to contact both the hotel helpline (there was a Jp phone number at the entrance but that's all, no other info whatsoever) and also escalated to Agoda (as I made my booking through Agoda for first nights) but no ans. In the end we had to enter property when someone unlocked the front entrance using her own passcode before we could speak to the helpdesk through the tablets. So it turns out that they claim most travellers would make their reservation at least a day prior to arrival, which was why system didn't capture my booking (yet ironically they allowed booking for same day check in .... When they clearly cannot manage the whole process) shouldn't there be more effort being put in to monitor for same day booking so the traveller doesn't get stuck at the front entrance especially in winter weather? We had to sit at the park nearby while trying to contact the helpdkesks but couldn't get through till the end...... The whole check in process was rather manual, basically you enter the info as prompted on screen then video call the helpline agent to verify before you'll get your passcode to your room. (All through tablet) Security seems alright if you're ok with the idea of using a keypad lock instead of having a physical room card? I guess customers just have to always make sure no one is looking when entering the passcode at the front door. Btw same passcode is used to enter hotel front entrance and for your room lock. All in all the biggest issue we found was the check in check out process. Overall stay was above average.

GGuest UserI had a wonderful 3-night stay at this hotel. The location is very convenient, just a short walk from both the subway and JR station, making it easy to get around. The breakfast was healthy and delicious—especially the cheesecake, which was a delightful treat each morning. I like the room with washing machine, microwave, fridge with freezer. As a solo traveler, I found the bed spacious and extremely comfortable. After long days of sightseeing, the hot springs were the perfect way to relax and ease my tiredness. Overall, a great experience and I would definitely stay here again!

MMiyu BirdiePersonal opinion as a female Asian traveler. Location: 20 mins walk from Hakata station. 4 mins walk to Gion bus stop or canal city bus stop, both go to Hakata station in around 10 mins. Also, 15 mins walk to Kawabata Shopping Arcade and Canal CityHakata. There are not many restaurants nearby, only convenient stores around the area. Better eat before returning to the hotel. There is a MaxValu Express (open for 24 hrs, 2 levels: 1st floor drugsstore and B1 supermarket) 4 mins walk from the hotel. Great option for late night snacks, drinks, daily necessities, and tax-free shopping. Room: small and a bit old, cleanliness ok, no bath tub only shower stall. Shower water is not hot enough. Very poor sound insulation (recommended to use earplugs when sleepping. Provided on 1st floor of hotel). You can hear almost every single activity happening next door(literally meaning). Light switches far away from bed, which is a bit inconvenient. Front desk: it is an unmanned hotel. Self check-in via smartphone prior (utilizing the QR code) or via computer on 1st floor. Self check-out via tablet provided inside the room or computer on 1st floor. Using password to enter room. There is a female staff member in the lobby area in the morning if needed help for anything. She doesn't speak much English but is very friendly and willing to help. Also, you can text the hotel staff member for assistance if needed via the room tablet provided. They reply quickly. Amenities: self-service, self luggage storage, only basic items provided. There is no ice maker and only 1 laundry machine on the 1st floor (always being occupied). All in all, Pros: though the hotel is unmanned, I find it pretty chill, easy and efficient as long as you figure out how things work (not hard at all, perhaps more accessible for younger visitors). Cons: You really have to lower your expectations for everything else. I personally feel it is more like a hostel than a hotel. But considering it is the Hakata area and with this affortable price, can't murmur.

Zzh3usFull marks for Dormy Inn, we had impeccable service from the service team over there this time round. As we were using them as a platform to travel throughout Kyushu, we had left some baggage with them while we were away. They were nice enough to keep the baggage for us after they had validated that we have subsequent booking. The breakfast roast beef was 10/10 best ever, they had an expensive Balmuda Toaster which allows for your toast to be fluffy while crispy and they have a Japanese style breakfast spread consisting of small plates including Mentaiko and Salmon Tartare. Location is close to Hakata Station, it takes about 12 minutes walk to reach there. Just opposite is FUK Coffee, they serve fantastic expresso coffee and just down the street on the left is an AEON MAX VALUE 24 hour supermarket with cheap bentos, sushi, alcohol and sashimi available. Moving more on the left side direction is a shopping street with Daiso and other amenities. I have to say that in general, Dormy Inn’s public baths – onsen facilities are top notch, they do not close after midnight (other than the sauna), the shower head is $300 in price from Refa and their hot water mixer taps are not press per use, but those normal ones you just turn on and it runs the water. The public bath is 10/10 fantastic. During our last night there, Super Typhoon Kong-Rey was in the area and we had huge rainfall. Dormy Inn lent us umbrellas and it was the first time we experienced the fact that many of the guests decided to stay in and not go out. The public bath was full and the free ice cream was almost gone! The free noodles given out from 2130 – 2300 was so full they ran out of noodles and they were nice enough to give the guest that missed out instant versions so that they did not need to leave the hotel in the rain. Overall I feel that they deserve full 5 stars, I really enjoyed my stay there and wish the staff all the best and thank you for the service!

GGuest UserClean and big hotel room. Our family of 5 stayed in a spacious room with 3 large double beds. We can easily open our 3 large suitcases with plenty of space to walk around. Friendly and professional staff. Easy to park downstairs and convenient to retrieve the car. It’s automatic parking, you just drive the car into the elevator with assistance from a staff and it’ll park for you. There’s a Lawson right across from the hotel. Coin laundry with 5 washers and 5 dryers on the 3/F. There’s also an onsen for hotel guests on the 3/F.

DDenna HeryatiWe stayed for 4 nights in residential room which provides kitchen facilities (we only used the kettle) as well as washer/dryer (which we used often and really grateful for this service). We stayed here too about a week ago and hotel provides free luggage storage (for our large suitcase) for our 2nd check in. Location is excellent with bus terminal and subway station very close by. Also surrounded by department stores, restaurants as well as Yatai. Reception staff always so attentive; they were also able to book us a taxi to the airport for our morning flight. Will definitely stay here for my future trips to Fukuoka.
