Vessel is a budget type accommodation... You get just enough of what you need and if you want anything more or anything specific, you help yourself to their amenities on the 2nd floor reception. Location wise was perfect for us and the rooms are all insulated so you don't really hear the noise outside. They don't provide carpark but have a tie up where you pay a fixed rate to a very close by carpark operator (about 250m away only). We were 4 persons (2 adults and 2 teenagers) and even though the room came with two beds each sized between a single bed and a queen sized bed and a third roll out mattress, you still need to pay more for the bed linen, comforter and a pillow.

A very nice stay in the city of Kumamon! Staffs are friendly, the room is big, amenities are well prepared. Had a three-night stay in the same hotel and enjoyed the convenience of it as it’s right next to the JR Kumamoto station with bus stops nearby and connected to the AMU plaza.

We some issues with the room we got. Toilet has a foul smell but the service recovery was impeccable. We left for dinner and they helped us to shift rooms. All our stuff were placed exactly how we left them. They even brought over stuff we placed in the fridge. Parking is available on site but there are cheaper parking within the area.

Cleanliness (minor issue): While the room itself was clean, it felt very damp upon entering, and there was a distinct musty odor. Thankfully, this dissipated after I ran the air conditioning for a bit. There were four pillows on the bed – some soft ones and some medium-firm, possibly buckwheat, pillows. One of the medium-firm pillows, however, smelled absolutely horrific, like it hadn't been changed after countless sweaty guests. This really made me question the hotel's hygiene standards. I've since stayed at other hotels that also provide these medium-firm pillows, and none of those had any odor. Location: The location is incredibly convenient. To reach Kumamon Square, you'll need to take the tram, which costs roughly 9 RMB per ride. Kumamoto Castle is visible as soon as you get off, and the hotel is just across the shopping street. Tsuruya Department Store is also within a 10-minute walk. Within a 5-minute radius, you'll find a 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, drugstores, and numerous eateries – essentially everything you'd need for a trip to Kumamoto is right here. If you're not planning to be out exploring from dawn till dusk every day, I highly recommend staying here as everything you need is readily available. However, if your itinerary involves extensive JR travel from early morning until late at night, then staying closer to Kumamoto Station would be more advisable.

The hotel is conveniently located, just a 5-minute walk from Kumamoto Station's exit. It's the second high-rise building to the left within the station plaza. In terms of facilities, the King room we initially stayed in was quite small, a common characteristic in Japanese hotels. It was rather inconvenient having to place our 26-inch suitcase on the sofa just to open it. The next day, we switched to a Twin room, which offered a significant improvement in space. The decor, apart from the bathroom, was generally acceptable. Overall, it was a decent, though not outstanding, stay.

Location was great, right next to shinshigai street, there was a public spa and sauna complimentary for guests to use. The pyjamas top was also quite comfortable to wear. Disposable toiletries available for pickup at the recep area, this includes tea. However, no coffee was available which was kinda shocking to me as this was a first I encountered in all the hotels I have stayed at. The air con or ventilation vent also requires deep deep cleaning, I had the sniffles after staying there and the air conditioning seems warm even after adjusting it to the lowest. I realised why after seeing the vent. The room feels slightly smaller than other similar sizes room that I have booked during my travels in Kyushu region.

The hotel is very conveniently located. We could spot it from our JR train coming from Kumamoto as we pulled into Aso Station. Buses going up the mountain depart right outside the station. The next morning, we took the 9:40 AM bus, and in just 25 minutes, we reached Aso Volcano Museum and Kusasenri. The scenery along the way was breathtaking, making the trip absolutely worthwhile. The hotel provided a welcome respite from the hot weather. The rooms were clean and, compared to many Japanese hotels, quite spacious and very well-maintained. On the ground floor, there's a communal kitchen and dining area where coffee, hot water, and instant soup are available for free. Many guests bought food from the nearby Lawson convenience store and enjoyed it there. We booked the hotel's breakfast, which was a set meal. The portion was generous, and there was a good variety of dishes.

A great value stay! The staff were friendly and helpful. The washing machine facilities were easy to use and managed to find an available machine most times. We stayed for 3 nights and each day bins were emptied and fresh towels given. The extra space under the bed for suitcases is a great touch and overall the room design in excellent. There were several tour groups staying during the 3 days which made it a little too busy, especially during breakfast as these guests all went at the same time. Not a great experience for more independent travelers like us, but the staff tried very hard. Overall one of the better stays we had during our Kyushu trip.

The whole hotel is tatami . As soon as you enter the hotel, you must take off your shoes and have staff to clean your luggage. The environment is comfortable. Free supper is provided in the evening. After the hot spring, there are snow bars and Yiliduo. There are comics in the lounge area. The room is clean and comfortable.

The staff is friendly and provide good service. The bath house is normal, but can tell its age. I feel the room is very dusty, it’s making my hand itchy and nose sneezy all the time. The bathroom is also old with water marks and mould. I am a fan of Dormy Inn and have stayed in Dormy Inn branches at Aomori, Hachinohe, Tokyo, and Osaka before, but this Kumamoto branch has the most room for improvement. The hotel is in walkable distance to the castle, so it is great.

BBokkie TruongAso Base is more than the usual backpackers hostel. I think it's like a boutique guesthouse. We spent an enjoyable 4 nights there. The owners are friendly and helpful. The facilities are spotless. The communal area downstairs has a well equipped kitchen and comfortable area for meals, reading etc. On the cold days we were there a log fire was made to warm us up! The bedrooms are comfortable and the communal showers/toilets are kept very clean. Adequate so never any waiting for a place. We also appreciated the discount tickets to the nearby Onsen. This is a great place at good value to stay in Aso.

MMahulaThe most amazing hot springs in the entire trip to Japan, it was worth taking a taxi (the bus stopped due to heavy snow) Japanese rockery garden, close to the river, hot spring pools are indoors and outdoors, and there are family soups. The food is also good. The waiters don’t speak English, but their body language is very rich and the communication is pleasant. It is a place worth visiting N times I plan to go again if I have the chance

GGuest UserI honestly do not know where to start, I booked the hotel without really knowing much about Kumamoto Prefecture. After arriving in Kumamoto City and then realising Ueki Onsen is another 40 minute bus ride I was thinking oh dear where am I staying. After arriving at the hotel I was greeted by the manager of the hotel who showed me to my room and gave me a tour of the facilities. Once settled in I realised there isn't great public transport around and I primarily wanted to see Beppu and Yufuin during my stay, I enquired with the manager on where I might be able to rent a car, with little to no Japanese language under my belt he took it upon himself to reserve a vehicle for me and offered to drive me himself to collect it. He then also said he would take me back to return it a few days later. After my trips to Beppu and Yufui village (Not to be missed) and not to miss the outstanding and beautiful surroundings in Uekimachi and the Aso region. The manager and I set off to return my hire car, on the way back he took me to Kikuchi shrine to pray and also gifted me coffee and cake. They also accommodated me with use of the on site onsen (amazing) after hours as I'm heavily tattooed. I feel truly grateful to have found this hidden gem of rural Japan and if you are thinking of traveling this great country I emplore you to go off the beaten path. I experienced untold kindness during my stay and have memories of a life time. Thank you so much guys
