A great sense of freedom! Stroll through the Royal Pavilion at Maha Chessadabodin Square

[Overview] Maha Chessadabodin Square, located in the center of Bangkok's old town, is an urban park used for royal events. When I visited on a clear morning in late January 2025, the gold-leaf-decorated royal pavilion stood out against the blue sky, and the area was peaceful, with local walkers outnumbering tourists. The square was renovated in 2012, and the sidewalks were unified to stone pavement, and plantings and sunshades were added, creating cool shade and photo spots. [Access] ・About a 15-minute walk from Sam Yot Metro Station • About 15 minutes by taxi from BTS National Stadium Station, around 50 THB. • Opening hours are 06:00–20:00, admission is free. There are public toilets and drink vending machines. [Highlights] 📍The gable of the Royal Pavilion, with its Naga decorations and mirror mosaics, shines in the morning sun, creating a nice contrast with the marble columns under the roof. 📍The distant view of the Great Plaza is symmetrical, with the ceremony line in mind. Standing in the center, you can feel the wind from the direction of the Ngawang River and the sound of the temple bells at the same time. 📍The promenade is lined with partition trees that stretch out in a tunnel shape, providing a natural sunshade that lowers the perceived temperature even in the hot season. 📍The colorful flower beds and tourist buses are reminiscent of the color scheme of the Thai flag, "green x red x gold," making them ideal for commemorative photos. [Photo Spots] 📍The front of the pavilion is in direct sunlight from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., when the gold leaf on the gable shines the most. 📍Drones are prohibited in the center of the square, but video recording with a handheld gimbal is permitted. 📍After 5pm, the backlit silhouette is beautiful, and long exposure is not necessary as the area is not lit up.
