Prasat Muang Tam is located in Ban Khok Muang, Chorakhe Mak Subdistrict, Prakhon Chai District, Buriram Province, approximately 64 kilometers south of the city center. It was built according to Hindu beliefs and is believed to have been built in the 16th-17th Buddhist century to honor Shiva. It is a religious site for the city or community. Prasat Muang Tam has a different design from other castles, with a large prang in the center and surrounded by smaller prangs at the four corners. The word Muang Tam is not the original name, but the name the locals gave to this ancient site, because this castle is located on flat ground, while Prasat Phanom Rung is located on the foot of a hill. Both Prasat Muang Tam and Prasat Phanom Rung are not far apart. It is only 8 kilometers apart.
