Travel Back in Time to Angkor Wat

Reflecting on my trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia, also known as Angkor Wat, two years ago, I was part of a tour group, which meant less hassle but also less freedom. The ancient city left a profound impact on us! Due to restrictions, I can only share nine photos, but I highly recommend visiting for a spiritual experience. Cambodia is a historic civilization in Southeast Asia, founded in the 1st century AD. It flourished during the Angkor period from the 9th to early 15th century, creating the renowned Angkor civilization. However, it declined in the late 16th century and became a vassal state by the late 18th century. Angkor was abandoned and forgotten until a French adventurer rediscovered it in 1861. Here are some travel tips: Mosquitoes are fierce in Southeast Asia. Local products work better than those from home. Sun protection is crucial in August. Wear hats and scarves, and dress modestly as most sites are temples. The currency is the Riel, but USD is widely used. Bring small denominations to avoid getting local currency as change. Time difference is negligible, but WiFi is weak in tourist areas. Local SIM cards are better. Safety: Be cautious of pickpockets. Stay in groups and avoid giving to child beggars as it attracts more. Key attractions include: Angkor Thom, the heart of the Khmer Empire, with the famous Bayon Temple and its serene 'Khmer smile.' Beng Mealea, a less-visited temple resembling the ruins of the Summer Palace, offering a glimpse of Angkor's untouched beauty. Angkor Wat, the best-preserved temple, featured on Cambodia's flag, showcasing ancient wisdom and artistry. Ta Prohm, known for its trees intertwined with ruins, famously featured in 'Tomb Raider.' Tonle Sap Lake, home to floating villages, highlighting diverse lifestyles. Bakheng Hill for sunset views, though crowded. Night markets and Pub Street in Siem Reap offer local culture and cuisine. Cambodia is impoverished, partly due to corruption. Despite Angkor Wat's wealth, locals remain poor as profits benefit foreign contractors. Meeting Angkor Wat is like traveling through time! #Travel #FavoriteDestinations #TravelPhotography
