The history that the temple claims is that Phraya Chaisongkhram was the one who built the temple and enshrined Phraya Mangrai's ashes. .. The pagoda of Wat Doi Ngam Muang is believed to be Phraya Mangrai's shrine. It has a laterite base (a later restoration, not built at the same time as the pagoda). It is in the shape of a castle with a 3-tiered square base, followed by a 1-tiered 2-tiered recessed base. Above it is the chedi chamber decorated with two high lotus buddha breast lines. In the middle of each side is a niche for enshrining a Buddha image. Next up is a set of two single lotus buddha breast lines in an octagonal plan, and then a round bell-shaped body.
