#VisitChongqing If you are visiting Chongqing (重庆) and want to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city, try to pin “Songgai Ancient Town” (Songgai Ancient Town), a small and quiet ancient town located on the banks of the Yangtze River in Jiangjin (江津区). It may not be as famous as other ancient towns, but it has an unexpectedly deep and warm charm. When I walked into Songgai Ancient Town, I felt like I had traveled back in time. The old stone-paved streets, the two-story wooden buildings still in the style of the Ming and Qing dynasties, and the local people still living a simple and traditional life — everything was quiet, peaceful, and full of a sense of “home”. On both sides of the road, there were old teahouses, local snack shops, and local handicrafts such as ancient lanterns, wooden objects, and beautifully patterned paper fans. When you walk along the river, you will see the long Yangtze River, the wide sky, and the wooden boats floating quietly, inviting you to sit still and look into the distance and feel truly relaxed. My favorite spots are the pavilions by the water and the small alleys covered with vines, almost like a scene from a period movie. You can also take a wooden boat down the river in the evening to watch the sunset reflecting on the water. Simmengol Ancient Town is not flashy and not rushed, but it is full of its own charm.
