🥤 Warung Ekspres – Not Quite Express, and Not Quite Impressive

I recently visited Warung Ekspres in Iskandar Puteri, hoping for a comforting local meal, but the experience left me a little let down. The cafe was completely empty when I arrived after 8pm, which felt odd for a place offering Malaysian staples like nasi lemak and lontong. Though the space was clean and offered both indoor and outdoor seating, the atmosphere felt lifeless without a single other customer. I tried a few items to get a feel for the menu. The chendol was okay—not bad, but nothing memorable either. The kaya toast, however, was a real disappointment. They used Planta margarine instead of butter, which took away the richness, and the kaya lacked the fragrant punch I expected. It tasted flat, and the bread felt like it came straight out of a supermarket loaf. Things didn’t improve with the iced coffee, which tasted stale—as if it had been brewed hours earlier and just left sitting. The only bright spot was the iced lemon tea: crisp, tangy, and just sweet enough. Definitely the best part of the meal. The bill came to RM33.10, which felt steep for a casual warung—especially given the overall quality of food and drinks. For that price, I expected something a lot more satisfying. Sadly, this visit just didn’t hit the mark.
