Ukiyo-e Collection Exhibition in Kaohsiung Nanzih

The Soka Art Museum in Nanzih District, Kaohsiung, is hosting the "From Edo to Modern Times: Tokyo Fuji Art Museum Ukiyo-e Collection Exhibition" from March 29 to May 25, 2025. The exhibition features 150 exquisite Ukiyo-e works from the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum in Japan, spanning 200 years from 1741 to 1941. Admission is free for all visitors. Among the exhibits are three Ukiyo-e pieces that were famously reproduced in oil paintings by Van Gogh. The original works are: - Keisai Eisen's "Courtesan in a Cloud Dragon Kimono" (Exhibition Room No. 7) - Utagawa Hiroshige's "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo: Plum Estate in Kameido" (Exhibition Room No. 126) - Utagawa Hiroshige's "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo: Sudden Shower over Shin-Ohashi Bridge and Atake" (Exhibition Room No. 127) These three masterpieces are not only iconic representations of Ukiyo-e art but also significant sources of inspiration for Van Gogh in his exploration of Eastern aesthetics, color, and composition.
