Kumamoto Castle: A Historic Landmark Worth Visiting

If you're visiting Kumamoto City, don't miss Kumamoto Castle, the third largest castle in Japan. Inside, you'll find historical artifacts on display. Although restoration from the 2016 earthquake is still ongoing, parts of the castle are open to visitors. Duration: Plan to spend about 1-2 hours exploring. You can leisurely walk up to the six-story main castle (there's an elevator available, but we didn't explore all floors). Best Time to Visit: Early April is ideal when cherry blossoms bloom around the castle. Language: Most information is in Japanese, focusing on Kumamoto City's history. It's recommended to download a translation app. Admission Fee: Tickets cost 800 yen, but if you have a one-day tram pass, the ticket price is reduced to 640 yen. Getting There: Take Tram Line A from JR Kumamoto Station to Kumamoto Station, then walk a short distance to the castle. Note: Photography is prohibited in certain areas inside the castle, so be mindful of the rules.
