Suizenji Jojuen Garden in Kumamoto

Suizenji Jojuen Garden in Kumamoto is a classic circuit-style garden inspired by the landscapes of the Tokaido's Fifty-Three Stations. Featuring ponds, small bridges, artificial hills, and meticulously pruned pine trees, the garden offers a picturesque view at every step, transporting visitors to a poetic world reminiscent of the Edo period. It is truly beautiful and a must-visit destination when traveling to Kumamoto. On the northern side of the garden lies Izumi Shrine, built during the Meiji era by retainers of the Kumamoto domain. The shrine primarily honors the first lord of the Kumamoto domain, his wife, and successive Hosokawa domain lords. Visitors can pray here for peace, health, business prosperity, and academic success.
