Fushimi Inari Taisha Senbon Torii (Thousands Torii Gate) The orange gates at this shrine are recognised all around the world and it’s something you have to see to believe. There are thousands of these gates lining a walk way through the forest from the main shrine to the mountaintop. The walk is a gradual slope with many tributes and mini shrines along the way, there’s so much to take in. The main shrine at the foot of the mountain is intricate and beautiful, the orange is a stunning contrast against the green of the trees and blue if the sky. The shrine is easily accessible with a metro stop right outside, only two stops to Kyoto main station. Or local taxis and Ubers drop off right at the door. They offer guided tours for a few or you can scan QR codes along the trail for multi-lingual translations. it can get very busy and it’s hard to get photos if you go late, we arrived by 8 and got a lot of the walkways to ourselves.
