🏜️ Day Trip to Luxor from Cairo — A Walk Through History at Luxor Temple If you’re short on time but still want to witness one of Egypt’s ancient wonders, a same-day trip to Luxor is surprisingly doable! I flew in early from Cairo and flew back the same evening, with just one main goal: visit the legendary Luxor Temple — and it was absolutely worth it. 📍 Itinerary Overview ✈️ 7:15am - 8:15am Morning Flight: Cairo → Luxor (1 hr) 💡 Need to go through security first, check in counters are after security gates. You can collect your ticket from Self check in Kiosks to save time. 🚗 Took an Uber straight to Luxor Temple (arrived before the heat peaked) 🏛️ Explored Luxor Temple at my own pace 🕰️Business Hours: 9am — 8pm 🍟 Lunch at McDonald’s right across from the temple 🚗 Back to the airport in the evening for my 7PM flight to Cairo 🚩 Sightseeing Route Just one site Luxor Temple —but it offers thousands of years of history in one place. 🏛️ Luxor Temple Built around 1400 BCE, the Luxor Temple isn’t just an archaeological site—it’s a living timeline. Constructed mainly by Amenhotep III and expanded by Ramesses II, it was used for royal coronations and religious festivals. Later, parts were converted into a Roman church, and even today, a mosque (Abu Haggag) still operates inside the ruins—an incredible fusion of old and older. What to see inside: •The massive seated statues of Ramesses II at the entrance • The Colonnade of Amenhotep III • Ancient hieroglyphs narrating victories and rituals • A mosque built right on top of the ruins 📌 Entry Fee: 500 EGP (credit card accepted at the ticket booking office near Temple entrance gate) ✅ I booked in advance on Trip.com —smooth and no hassle. 🚇 Transportation • Uber from Airport to Luxor Temple: \~50–70 EGP — fast and fair • Uber back to Airport (WARNING 👇): 🚨 From 1 PM onwards, getting a legitimate Uber becomes nearly impossible. Many UBER drivers accept rides and then demand 200–800 EGP in cash on arrival, refusing to follow the app rate. Even if you report them, they don’t seem to care — it’s a form of extortion, and unfortunately, it’s common. ✅ Better option: Bargain with a local taxi outside the temple. You can usually agree on a fair price of 80–100 EGP back to the airport.
