🍛 Hidden Nyonya Gem Near Hatten – A Lunch to Remember at Cottage Spices

We came to Cottage Spices Nyonya Restaurant for lunch since we were staying just nearby at Hatten Hotel, and we’re so glad we did. Tucked away in a quiet stretch of road, this cozy little spot serves some of the most authentic and flavorful Nyonya food we’ve had in Melaka. We ordered a variety of dishes to share—Asam Pedas Fish, Chicken Pongteh, Udang Lemak Nenas, and Sotong Sambal Petai. Every dish came out tasting homemade, bold in flavor, and full of depth. The Asam Pedas especially stood out—spicy, tangy, and just the right amount of heat to open up your appetite. The Sotong Sambal Petai was also packed with umami and had that addictive sambal kick. We could tell everything was made fresh, and the quality really came through in each bite. To wrap up the meal, we had their cendol, and it was possibly one of the best we’ve tried in Melaka—gula melaka was fragrant and rich, and the coconut milk was creamy without being overly sweet. The restaurant itself is small and simple, with only a handful of tables. It was already filling up when we arrived, so we were lucky to get a seat without waiting. The staff were friendly and made us feel like we were dining in someone’s home. If you’re near the area or staying at Hatten like us, definitely make a lunch stop here.
