Traces of Roman and Gothic Styles in Medieval Architecture

A journey to the Pyrenees in Spain ~ Navarre Autonomous Community This historical and artistic site features two medieval churches: the Church of Santa María, a 13th-century Gothic church with a stunning exterior and a magnificent altarpiece, partially located within the palace, which was once the site of the church; and the Church of San Pedro, the oldest church in Olite, showcasing Romanesque architecture and cloisters. Built in the 12th century, it underwent extensive renovations in the early 18th century, leaving only the original façade intact. Among the civil buildings, the Olite Palace stands out, which was completely rebuilt in 1937, while the old palace was converted into the Parador Nacional hotel. Nearby attractions include the Pitillas Lagoon, home to bird observation stations, and the Oliva Monastery across the Aragón River, featuring a striking Cistercian church and Gothic cloisters.
