Exploring the Charm of Zhen Guo Temple

Located in Haodong Village, Pingyao County, Shanxi Province, Zhen Guo Temple was founded during the Five Dynasties period in the 7th year of Tianhui under the Northern Han dynasty (963). It was designated as a National Key Cultural Relic Protection Unit in 1988 and listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in 1997. The temple is divided into two courtyards: the front courtyard features the Shanmen Tianwang Hall and the Bell and Drum Towers, while the central area houses the Wanfo Hall. Wanfo Hall is a wooden structure from the Five Dynasties period and is one of the oldest surviving wooden buildings in China. Inside the hall, there are 11 vividly colored statues from the Five Dynasties period, showcasing exceptional artistic value. Opening Hours: From March 11 to October 8, the temple is open from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. From October 9 to March 31 of the following year, it is open from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with the last entry allowed at 5:15 PM. Admission Fee: Full-price tickets cost 25 yuan, while half-price tickets are available for 12 yuan. Transportation: By public transport, visitors can take the 209 bus from the Pingyao Ancient City North Gate stop to Haodong Zhen Guo Temple Station. For those driving, exit the Dayun Expressway at the Pingyao exit and follow the road signs to the temple.
