Family Adventure: Climbing Castle Rock with Kids in St. Ignace!

The hike up is a bit of a challenge, especially for little ones but there are different areas with benches for resting along the way and and it's totally worth it even if you have to take breaks. When you reach the top you’re treated to breathtaking panoramic views of the Straits of Mackinac, Mackinac Island, and the surrounding forest. Definitely put this one on your must-do list while visiting the U.P. It’s the perfect combination of history, natural beauty, plus a good workout! One of the coolest parts about climbing Castle Rock is obviously reaching the top and seeing the view but then seeing the American flag proudly waving in the wind. It’s a great spot to pause, take in the incredible view, and snap some photos with the flag. After you’ve gotten back down to the shop be sure to go to the front counter desk and grab a sticker as a memento of your climb. It's a small but fun tradition—definitely a nice keepsake to remember your hike up!
